you're ate up man. of course you don't know what you're getting into with a used one. but you don't know either with a new one. that's why you play it first.

i got lucky with all my guitars i guess. i've never ordered one from online (except my sonoran) that i didn't like straight out of the box (USED).

check your craigslist before you go drop some jack. if you're asking about what squier is best for you, you probably don't know what you're looking for.

Yeah, there is definitely something to be said for going that route.

Ate up? Whatever...

Since this is a Squire Forum, I feel that people should know that you do not have to spend a ton of money on a guitar to get a good guitar.

Have a good day.

no, but you do have to find the best guitar for you. why would you drop $250+ for a good squier when you could find a used fender for the same price or not much more?

i have had several (CIC squiers, CII squiers, CIJ's) and MIJ & MIM strats. the CIJ squiers are the only thing that really compared to either fender. the rest were ok, but the fit/finish felt too cheap.

if i could go back in time, i would skip all the crap guitars i bought, and save up and get a used fender that felt good in my hands.

sure, the new squier stuff they're coming out with is nice, but it never wowed me more than my MIM strat. felt too cheap. no matter what you decide to buy, play the $@!& out of it first.

used guitars don't depreciate as soon as you buy them, and most of the time, they've hardly been played.

I also wish I could go back in time and not buy the crap guitars I bought too. Luckily I have only had guitar regret 2 times. Keep playing and see you around.

I'd seriously consider buying used. Squier starter packs are pasted on craigslist more than any other guitar. I'm sure you can find a $250 pack for $100-$150 and they are usually barely touched. I know there are several packs in my local area right now. I litteraly just picked up a used affinity series today that is in MINT condition and was set up perfect. Intonation is spot on, action is very low and not one bit of fret buzz. In my opinion that is better than new!!! If you buy new you will surely need a set up and that's going to cost you a little more $$$.

To idahored:

Regarding your post earlier..."If Your serious about learning consider a standard series and maybe a G-Dec Jr or Line 6 spider Amp You'll spend another 100 bucks but you'll have a better guitar and an amp with some features good for a beginner like backing tracks to jam with. Just my two cent's It's harder to stay with it if you have marginal gear."

I SO SO SO agree with you. I started 4 yrs ago as a beginner with a G-Dec Type PR-250 (remember, it was 4 years ago...it's an older version), along with a brand new Ibanez S-Classic. A very affordable combination for an absolute beginner. That G-Dec was one of the best amps I've ever seen. With all the different options to change the effects of your guitar, plus all the backing/drums/beats that you can change with patterns, keys, tempo's,effects, etc., it replaces every type of pedal you can think of. Too bad it was only 35 or 40 Watts or whatever.

Fast forward 4 years....I studied, practiced, studied, practiced, studied and practiced non-stop for those 4 years. Learned theory, chords, modes, scales, improvisation, etc, and if I say so myself, I got pretty damn good.

So back to the music store for an upgrade. Sat there for hours trying different guitars and amps. With what I could afford, I ended up with the Squire Fender 60's Classic Strat Vibe and a Line 6, 75 Watt amp.

OMG, what a difference! I didn't really believe there could be THAT much of a difference between these things, but I am now a believer! This combo's sound quality is unbelievably better! And it was affordable. VERY HAPPY I made this upgrade.

I was at Music-Go-Round a couple days ago and they had about 20 different Squier guitars hanging up there, mostly Strats, ranging in price from $69 to $155. I wouldn't be afraid to buy used, especially if you can sit there and try it out first. Happy hunting.
