Can anyone tell me why the Duncan Designed pickups in my Squier Esprit don't sound as hot as the Duncan Designed pickups in my Hamer SATQ? TIA

Differences in wood, hardware, bridge style, and construction technique all factor, in along with the pickups and your amp, as to how a guitar sounds...So my guess is that there is something different between the 2 guitars as far as style and build that is making them sound different from one another even though they may have similar or the same pickups...

Thanks. That may be it. Nothing else has changed but the brand of guitar.

Don't know about the pot values. Both guitars are imports, both have a set neck, both have a stop tailpiece.

Two things might pertain:
1. The Esprit has a chambered body, the Hamer might not.
2. Just because they both say "Duncan Designed" doesn't mean they are the same design....

The Esprit does have a chambered body while the Hamer does not. And the DD pickups may not be the exact same, but they are very similar. Now to further stimulate discussion - I replaced the DD's in the Esprit with "real" Seymour Duncans and it still is not as hot as the Hamer. There's got to be something else that makes that Hamer so hot.
