Just inherited from my cousin a dark blue affinity strat, relic'ed. Looks awesome to me. I just reversed the strap button, bought an ernie ball bone nut, a set of 09 strings, and a new 5 way switch (which has been giving problems to the strat). The volume knob has been malfunctioning (meaning it mutes sometimes then when you knock it, it works), it must be some kind of solder that isnt soldered properly.

The strap is a custom one, hand made with some kind of faded green cloth, and full of Xs. Mustve been a shirt.

The serial of it is CY10512115, could someone please inform me what year is it...

The amp is a crate 15 watt, with reverb, and a nice gain. Only problem is that I get a heavy "wooooooooooooooo" if i turn it from 6 or so, through 10. I wanted to know how could I stop this, and what modifications could I make to this amp to get a better (Hendrix, SRV, Clapton) type of sound.

Pics soon.

You can look up the serial on Wikipedia under Squier guitars.

As for the amp I too have one and hate it. The only way you can get it to sound good is to use it clean with an effects pedal. The overdrive is useless unless you are Curt Cobain and the reverb is also a waste of money (I paid $20 extra) and time.

On the plus side the clean channel is very clean and works great with my Boss Chorus or whatever distortion pedal you like. I got a cheap DOD Supra Distortion that sounds creamy and awesome on this amp.

Also I play at very low volumes which I couldn't do on a tube. So my next project is a tube pedal. I'll let you hear it if I ever get it to work.

Hey man cool. Yeah man let me know. I wonder what I can do to reduce that wooo noise when I turn up the reverb.

One experiment that I did was to turn the reverb all the way up and all the tone controls to zero. Gives it a very dreamy, aquatic effect.

And I was born in Fort Lauderdale and lived in Sunny Isle for quite some time!

I've not had a single problem with the pickups, and I assume it must be ceramic ones (affinity strat originals are ceramic or alnico?). The pickguard is falling apart, really. it is cracked in several places and i've done my best with some masking white tape to give it a clean look until I gather a few bucks to buy a new pickguard.

One thing I noticed is that it is 8 holes only, and I've only seen 11 holes three ply pickguards for sale down here.

I know I promised photos of my stuff and I didnt break that promise, I'm really anxious to see what you guys think of it.

Hey neighbor, I guess I live down the road from you. I went to school in North Miami Beach but that was back in the late 70's.

Anyway check out http://store.guitarfetish.com/
They might have the pickguard you want. Otherwise you will have to redrill a standard. Nobody will ever see the holes under the plastic.

Good luck and I hope to post my homemade tube pedal under "Do you spend too much time on your gear?" if I ever get it working. So far I have the power supply pumping out 150 volts DC for the tube and I haven't even gotten zapped! I don't see any arching coming out of the voltmeter probes so I guess it is all static.

yeah man i was thinking of getting a sandwich one, since its more likely not to crack with time and heavy playing.
