Hey - there's a very nice article over at the Squier website that has a history of the company and some of it's instruments. Check it out.

Nice find! Too bad they don't go through the model and country of origin. I'm still trying to find out about my Korean I bought at Guitar Center back in the mid 90's. I'd just like to know the specs. It weighs a ton so I guess it is made of basswood. Hope it is not plywood. Not much sustain but it stays in tune. Could really use better pickups. Can't make out the notes under heavy distortion.

i kinda need some help here.. can anyone explain about the connection between the sustain and the type of wood?

The wood of choice for me is Ash. Very light and great sustain and sound. Alder comes second because of finish and in my opinion sound. Basswood and Mahogony produce lows and are not too good mid range.

Of course wood grade is the big denominator.

So check out Warmoth and Stewmac for their descriptions and you will get a good feel for what wood can do for you :)

Is it a "Squier II"? Squier IIs were made out of plywood. Plywood also tends to be heavy.

Also if it's a Strat, take off the tremolo back cover and look at the wood. Does it look like a wafer?

If it has layers like this on the wood, then you have a plywood body.
