Hello everyone!
I would like to hear your suggestions on amps for cheap Squier guitars, such as the Bullet Strat and the Affinity ones!

When I was in the guitar store and trying out the Bullet Strat, I can't remember which amp was plugged in (although I'm pretty sure it wasn't a Fender one) and it sounded good! I already had a Spider III 30 (Line 6) amp at home, so at the time, I didn't want to get a new amp.

But now, after practicing for several months, I've found that the Spider III is not for me! For sure, the Bullet Strat is not the guitar, but for starters like me is ok (for now!).

So, which amps would you suggest, for no more than $250 (appr. 200 Euros)? I mostly play Rock/Alternative! I'm also planning in getting a better guitar sometime in the future, (either Fender of Gibson) so I would like that amp to sound just fine with the next guitar as well! I know that you have to try them on first, but since it's all in theory, I'd love to hear your opinions!

thanks for your time!

Recently I dragged out my old Marshall VS15R, and planted it in the living room. I've forgotten how solid that this is. You may want to look into a MG30 or a FM25, 15g, Pathfinder, etc. If you're just looking for a small simple combo that is.

thanks for your reply! Yeah I'm looking for something that sounds good, and won't be used for gigs!
So far -from the Fender family- the Frontman 25 R got my attention!

I play my Squier Standard Strat through a Roland Microcube, and I've been very happy with it. It has six different amp emulation modes and lots of good effects. It's little, but it puts out some serious sound! Well worth the $125 I paid for it.

The Fender Champion 600 would be a nice choice too. A bit pricey for a 5w amp, but it is tube. :D Goes for about $200 usd. The Frontman is a nice choice, as is the Roland, but if you're going for simple, the 600 or Frontman are good places to start.

So you've finally realized that all those negative comments that everybody is saying about the spider amps is true aye; your finally realizing that the spider amps are a big pile of junk aye; your finally realizing that you can't get that amp to "chug" or breakup nicely or play loud without being thin and brittle or to give a nice clean sound that resonates well or to dial in lots of gain and still have nice string definition aye!!!

Well don't feel bad cause I'm ashamed to say that I fell for all the gimicky crud about the spider amps too! That's right, I'm ashamed to say that I had a spider III 120 and finally through it out the window after tweeking on it for nearly 6days straight trying to dial in a good clean bluesy channel that I could play Little Wing on.

I don't know if you can afford it right now, but I sold my Spider III 120 and express pedal and bought a Fender SCXD and I am as happy as I can be with the outcome. So happy that I bought a cab to go it and now I'm back to playing SRV and Hendrix and all the great music that I love. And I too amp playing on a Standard Squier and if you set up the intonation properly and set the action right your Squier can be a really great guitar.

Definitely, save up for a new SCXD or maybe find a used one. . . it will be well worth it!!! When XD is hooked up to an extension cab it's like you're playing on a big tube amp with a bit less power but lots of potential.

thank you so much everyone!

SRVWANNAB, yes, I did realise all of the above! The thing is that the Spider III was already there, and I didn't want to spend more money before making my mind if I do like playing electric guitar as well, so...

btw, Spider's clean channel is good, the Crunch and Metal -I don't ever use them- and the Insane channel sounds good only for certain songs.

So basically I'm looking for an amp with fantastic clean and drive channels!

If you want to check out some tube amps, I recommend Blackheart as they are good sounding tube amps with a great price...

You are in an elite market Wild Rose. The sound you are looking for comes in a very expensive tube amps like a Fender Deville or similar. I know a blues player that has spent tons of money on amps and the two amps he stayed with were the Deville and the Mesa Boogie. The only other amp he recommends is the Roland Cube.

You might want to check out the used amp market like Ebay and see what you can find for around $200. All tube amps have to be repaired and tuned anyway. Parts burn after a while.

I personally have never played anything better than a Mesa or a Deville and would not settle for anything else. Except of course for my crazy idea of building a 18W Blues Breaker clone but that's a whole other story.

I have only 2 amps - a Vox DA-5 which does sound very nice, is portable and didn't cost too much ($139) and my new Fender Super Champ XD.

The difference is like night and day - if you can try one out at a store - do it, I think that you will like it. With the price rise, it is $399 - but a used one maybe best - or try and find a Fender Vibro Champ XD - it's only 5w, and it's supposed to be very nice too. It is $259 now.

I'm not sure how the prices are at your location - with exchange rates, import fees, etc - it might be more or less - you will have to do some research on that.

But the best research is playing thru various amps at guitar stores - you might find something that none of us have mentioned that suits your budget and your ears

The Blackhearts are very nice amps too - again try one if you can.

Good luck in the search for your tone,

Gil 8)

The smaller Spider's aren't as good. If you step up to a 210 or 212, or stack, you'll get better results.

I play mine through an all original 1968 tube Pro Reverb.
