Hello everyone!

I'm just wondering, will Fender Pickguard fit to my Squier? I want to change the pickguard in my Telecaster, but some shops in the Internet says that it won't fit.

Do you have any experience with such replacement?

Which model is it?

Some places may require a tracing in order to get a correct fit. Guitarfetish.com might help as well.

With just about any pickguard swap, you run the chance of some holes lining up, and some not, but this is a fairly common issue with pickguard swaps, and its not unusual to have to drill a few new holes in your guitar to get them in place. Neck pocket contour in the corners may need some slight altering on the pickguard. As far as swapping Fender and Squier parts...its not as much as a direct replacement/swap as you may think. Some parts may line up, but some won't mainly since Fenders are made to Fender specs, usually with Fender licensed parts, but Squiers, while being made to Fender specs and designs, do not use Fender parts...and sometimes Squiers use metric measurements or conversions as opposed to Fenders inches...

GuitarFetish though is a good place to start when looking to upgrade import guitars like Squiers...I have bought 4 Teles pickguards from them for my Squier and SX Teles, and most of the holes line up...maybe had to re-drill 1-2 holes, though most were either right on or close enough to get the screw in there. The only other thing I had to do with the pickguards was make the corners where the neck goes a bit more square since the pickguard corners were rounded, but nothing a few minutes with some needle files can't fix.

I bought an Allparts brand pickguard to put on my Squier Standard Strat, and it fit just fine. The one thing I did have to do was shave the part that goes under the fingerboard because this pickguard was just a tad thicker than the original. That took me about 10 minutes with a Dremel tool, and it looks great!

Check out the before and after photos:

I can't speak to the Bullet or Affinity series squiers, they may have a somewhat smaller pickguard- but I just painted my Standard Squier and replaced the pickguard with a new one for an American Standard Strat and it fit perfectly. However, the spring cover in the back had only 2 holes that lined up and the rest had to be screwed into fresh wood. The thing is that this was no big deal and it really doesn't matter because the wood (at least on mine) is soft enough to easily turn the small screws with a phillips screw driver without a drill and it goes right in.

When I first took out my new pickguard and placed it up against the bare guitar and tried to match up the holes I quickly became worried because they don't "seem" like they line up right, but if you place the old pickguard back to back with the new one you will notice immediately that they match perfectly.

You just have to make sure that you choose the correct hole and pickup configuration- such as 11 hole (that counts the holes that go around the pickguard and not the pickup holes or selector switch holes) and 3 single coil if that's what you have. I imagine some brands might be different, but the brand I used was from guitar center- forget the name- but the one they fill the wall with as their main pickup in stock.

Standard size Squiers must truly be Standard size Strats.

EDIT: The brand name pickguard I used is called "pro line" for American Standard strats.
