I'm putting a new nut on an old Squier. It fits nice and cleanly on the treble side, but the bass side of the slot itself is slightly deeper at one corner (it's not a size difference in the size of the nut). Essentially, it's created a small space between the one corner and nut.

What's a good way to proceed? I'm assuming the best course would be to fill the space so that the floor of the slot is where it should be? Any ideas?

Thanks!

In the words of ODB and the Wu-Tang Clan, Shimmy Shimmy Ya...perhaps a variation of a nut shim?

Excellent! Thank you.

One more question: Let's say the space extended into the wall of the nut groove. So the bottom of the nut could be shimmied, but what about if there were a small gap between the nut and wall?

Vertical shim perhaps? on the tuner side of the nut.

Just a thought. Are you sure the radius of the nut you are installing is the same as the radius of your neck/fretboard? A mismatch there could cause the gap under the nut you are refering to, not?
