01/19/09 I have a Squire II electric ser#E955690 I assume it was made between 84-87 what's unusual to me is the body is sculpted similar to an Ibanez JS model and the fretboard is scalloped. The fretboard looks factory it doesnt seem to be aftermarket but I've never heard of a factory scalloped Squier. Can anyone tell me what model it is? BTW the finish is metallic red if that helps.

01/20/09 I have now learned that the model is, apparently an HM3 and was built in the Ibanez factory (no wonder it looks so much like a Ibanez JS) and was in fact built in 1989. To clarify i earlier stated the fretboard was scalloped in fact it is half-scalloped from about the 10th fret on and the work was impeccably done. These models weren't released with scalloping but it was offered as a pricey custom option through the factory. Does anyone know if there is a record of serial #'s that might indicate that this guitar was factory scalloped or if this was done after-market?

Actually I think its an '89 because there was a thread on here, in fact there are many different threads on this sub-forum about Squier serial numbers, just look back at the various pages in this Squier forum, which stated the E is for the number 8, and the 2nd number will be the year...

To my knowledge, no factory made Squiers have been made with scalloped necks, so it sounds to me like someone got this done by someone who knew what they were doing. Lets face it, the guitar is possibly 20 years old, if you have not been the owner that entire time, that leaves a lot of time for previous owners to have modded it...Squier used to make some Ibanez-ish models in the late 80s to try and get some of the shred and metal market that had pointy headstocks, instead of the Fender styled ones...

I'm very familar with the HM series of Squiers. If you give me a picture, I could probably easily id it. If it's a Squier II then it's not an HM3. The HM3s had Ibanez Saber style bodies with an H/S/H config.

Hello everyone -- new to the forum and was trying to find info on this guitar. I think now that this is a 1989 HM3 but am trying to verify. I bought it new in 1989 and played it until about 3 years ago when I replaced it with a PRS custom 24. I am considering giving this one to my son, but would like a value on it before I do that.

Identifying it here seems to be a good place to start.

Any info I can get is most helpful.

So, here are the pix:

I remember when those came out, and I remember playing them in the stores around that time as well, but I just cannot remember what they are called. HM3 sounds familiar...I think its right as here was one that was on eBay recently:

Here's another link, and it seems these may have been made at the same factory that some Ibanez guitars get made at as well:

Yes, yours is an HM3. They aren't quite 1989. I think that E9 serial number ranged anywhere from 89 to 91. I bought mine new in 91.

About the only website there has ever been for this guitar is here http://www.thatmetalbox.com/squier/

I have modified mine through the years. I probably love it more today than I have in my almost 20 years of ownership. These are very underrated guitars, (I know. Everyone says that about their guitar).

Yeah man, it is I. Are you over at the AGF too? I thought I saw an Acidhouse over there, but I might be confused...

Hi,
I used to own one of these. Yes, it is a Fender HM3. Does yours have a neck-through body? I bought it for $420.00 in '93. Mine was stolen a few years ago, and I have been looking for one. I just missed a couple on Ebay that sold for between $250 and $350. I would love to buy one. I want one with a neck through though- some of them have bolt on necks. I liked mine because they have a thinner neck and it never went out of tune, no matter how much I used the tremelo. Anyway, if you ever want to sell it, let me know. Oh- and I am jealous that you bought a PRS :)

FenderHM3 -

Not sure how adamant your are about finding another HM3, but I do know of a 2001 Stagemaster (cobalt blue metallic/6string) sitting in a shop just gathering dust. Nice player/body and everything you're looking for. All for the lump sum of $120. I think it has your name on it...

I actually would love to own a neck through HM3 as well. I saw an orange flame one on ebay about five years ago. I probably should have grabbed it then. Still, there is nothing wrong with the bolt neck models. I had mine out again the other day and am still blown away by it. I appreciate it more and more each year.

Yeah, I am just looking for an HM3. For now I just need an inexpensive electric guitar, and will look far and wide for an HM3 at a reasonable price. I sold my Strat for $700 last year- I don't really like Strats, but that one also had a unusually thin neck. Eventually I want to buy a PRS- but doesn't most everyone, lol.

WHERE!!

Does it look like this??

Image

Neck-through design?? Made in Korea?

These are my favorite Squiers!!! Check out the Myspace link or haleamano.com link in my sig, and you'll hear it in the guitar solo of "Recession". Wouldn't mind having a 3rd one. I have a red one too, you can see it in the background of the pic.
