I'm looking for a red tortoise pickguard for a bullet strat I just bought as nice guitar I can pratice with at work. The only problem I'm having with the pickguard is finding one that fits closely without having to drill holes into the body. Also one thing I noticed was that the pickguard that came with the guitar also has extra holes punched for the pots as the pots have pegs which help mount them to the pickguard. Please any help will be greatly appreciated. I know most people will say to just drill it but I dont want to if I dont have to.

No I have not tried them but just now looking at there website I see that I'll have to order one on the phone through them the main problem I'm having is the holes not lining up correctly and the 3 holes for the pots. so if anyone had this problem and found a good pickguard please let me know thanks.

I also recommend GuitarFetish.com.

Also, unless you get a pickguard custom built (which means "custom" pricing) from a tracing of the pickguard you have now, chances are you will need to re-drill a couple of holes, but this is a fairly common mod/issue with pickguard changes, and any other holes remain under the pickguard anyways, so its not that big of a deal...

Drilling new holes for a pickguard is easy if you use a self-centering pilot drill bit. It's primarily used for countersunk holes in a hinge. You just line it up and push. Some even come with depth adjustments so you don't drill through your stock. It's not like a countersinking bit that drills the hole and the countersink - it just drills a small pilot hole. If you can't get any of the holes to align (8 to 11), don't be concerned about where to drill just lightly draw around the old pg with a soft pencil (4B - 6B) then line up the new pg up, tape the new pg to the body and drill with confidence. A soft pencil means that you aren't creating a furrowed line, almost incised, that you would get with a hard pencil. A #2 pencil is an HB, too hard for the job, and its graphite is not as easily removed with a dry cloth as a soft pencil can is. Don't use any type of waxed pencil as it will smear when you try to remove it. Or, you can just line up the two pg's with the old one in place, tape on the new one and just drill through them both - this way you have the new pg in perfect alignment with the body.
