I just attempted, and a feeble attempt as it turned out, to replace the 5 way pickup selector switch on a Squier Strat that I have. It's a nice looking guitar and certainly well worth saving but something went horribly wrong and I'm at a loss to find a good wiring diagram. Anyone know of any source for such. I may have overlooked it on the support unit of the Fender web site.

Not all switches are the same either, so some wire up differently than others.

Here's where you can find wiring diagrams for Squiers:
http://www.squierguitars.com/support.php

Here's a different wiring diagram if your switch looks more like the one shown in the diagram:

Bookmark this as it is a great source for all kinds of guitar wiring diagrams:

As far as what went wrong...What do you mean? Nothing works, something works, it works backwards? If you have a digital camera and an account on something like photobucket, you can post pics and perhaps some of us here can help you troubleshoot it that way as well...

Nothing but a serious hum when I hooked the amp chord in and turned on the amp...not a guitar sound could be made or heard. I pretty much made a mess of it I fear.

Make sure everything is grounded and all grounds are connected properly.
