Thanks! It was an abused '51 I scored off the local CL for $50. It needed a total resto and initially, I was going to go with a vintage copper/black/gold plan, but my little girl loves Tink. I already have a Black '51 and a black Strat, but nothing in white. It was my first attempt at a "paint & body" project and up close, you can tell. The pups & hardware are all GFS. The 'guard is Krylon "pistachio" and even though it was not one of the "for plastic" colors, I juat scuffed it before paint. The front decal is from Hasting's and the sexy Tink on the back I ordered from stickershopping.com.
Here's some pics from when I first got it...

Their were gouges in the fretboard under the B & G around the 5th that I didn't know how to fix, so I scored a very nice neck with Fender logo and roller trees, Kiwi'd it and then used button trees after I saw them on the new Fender Pawn Shop '51s.

No no, its fine... ill be completely honest and say that pictures do this guitar no justice. The finish on it is outstanding (from a noobs point of view lol).

Unfortunately i cant comment on how it plays or anything as it needs to be set up, it sounds horrendous at the moment so im avoiding playing around with it so i don't get put off lol.

Let me know if and when you get yours :D.

Griff

thanks griff if you go back on this forum you'll find my current main guitar an olympic white vm strat with 3 singel coils... a really beautiful guitar... i'm actually experiencing on humbuckers for the first time i was also thinking of modding a lake placid blue cv 50's strat with a humbucker on the bridge (this would make my first guitar mod) and i think it's an awesome idea but i'm a little conflicted with drilling holes for an 11 hole pickguard but i will most likely go with the project just hope the finish won't ruin itself with the drilling

ill take a look at your current guitar when im back as im about to take mine to the shop to get setup, thought id drop this post quickly :).

Personally I've been playing for less than 6 months and this is my first ''proper'' guitar, the difference between the feel of the fret board is outstanding.

i never even knew what a humbucker was until i bought this current squier lol, its great for picking up more tone... i mean it makes your playing a lot more vibrant. The only problem i find with a bridge humbucker (from my limited experience with guitars) is that it gives a country style feel to the sound as its a bridge pick up, there isnt much depth in sound for high strings.

If anyone has any tips on how to overcome this with overdrive or tone controls that would be great.

that could depend on your amp... what are your amp and overdrive levels? what amp are you using?

Ive got a Marshall 10amp, the overdrive settings are gain, volume, and contour. Settings wise i havnt got a clue lol, i generally play on clean. The guitar place suggested that i get an engineer to rewire the neck tone control to the humbucker so then i can reduce the treble, doesnt seem to bad of an idea i guess lol.

Got the guitar back at home now, plays great now that i have some slinkys on it. Only problem i still notice is when i fret the high E on the 8th fret the sound resonates through the body of the guitar, small nick i know but still annoying lol :p.

yeah a lot of people do that since the neck and bridge pickups never mix... thought of doing it myself but i wanna check the sound first... if you're playing clean i guess it's pretty normal to get country sounds on a clean guitar amp setting

I'm not sure that's all that necessary.

Here's the deal. And I'm only going to speak for myself here. Everyone's different.

I play a lot in the clean channel. I have the same kind of pickup setup (HSS) on a couple guitars. The Humbucker at the bridge is one that I rarely ever use in the clean channel. I use the neck pickup most of the time for it's great bass tones, then when I switch to Distortion, that's when I use the Bridge humbucker. It's a higher output and distorts better than the 2-singles for solos.

You COULD do that. But in my opinion, it makes the humbucker dull and even more lifeless to cut the treble.
