Ok so i am looking at getting a new guitar .. i just sold my ibanez art300 and looking to get a fender.. but from what i am hearing... i can go something along the lines of a new vintage squire then later on just change the pick ups and it will be as good as any other fender standard? Im kind of a name brand junkie but i am really considering trying this if i can find a descent squire at a guitar center or something like that... any way .. any suggestions on which way to go on this... also strat or tele... i am not to familiar with the fender line up being i have always played ibanez

I have never played one, but everything I have read about the Classic Vibe series has been outstanding. They seem to be very well built guitars.

I have a Standard Tele and a Masters Series Esprit. With a good set-up both of these guitars came to life.

I've never played one but I heard they are nice. If you get it on sale for at least 10% off then it's even cheaper. Incidentally I just saw last night that American Musical Supply and ZZounds both now carry Classic Vibe guitars and basses, which would allow you to pay over a few month period. If you do get it let us know how it is from a "brand junkies" perspective, as you called yourself.

I just got a Squier Vintage Modified Thinline Tele. The DD pickups were okay but ... did not quite do it for me. So I got some used pups off of an '08 Fender MIA Tele. The Squier is an amazing guitar for the money. Really. Also, the guitar came setup perfectly out of the box. It did not need one little tweak. That alone shocked the crap outta me.

I have a Vintage Modified Strat in my collection, and it is definitely worth getting. I have used in every show that i have done since i bought it, and it has only put a smile on my face. For Fender to put a guitar at this price, it is a steal.
For some people this Duncan Designed pickups are their cup of tea, but when i tightened the screws to where i want them, they sounded like an American Strat. Just fiddle with them and get the sound "you" want.

I would get the guitar. :D

The wife got me an older Squier Strat because it "looked like"
a friend's 70s build Partsocaster that I mentioned sounded pretty good.

I was amazed, the fit, finish & action were great but paled in comparison
to the sound!
After playing it for quite a few gigs- I do not need to "change out" the
less expensive pick-ups.

This Classic Vibe Squier will now always remain original,
with it's one ply 8 hole pickguard & large headstock...And orig. PUs.

(Guess I'll look around for something else to become a partsocaster!)

Try an older one first, if you like it, go for it.

I'm playing one myself, a cherry sunburst (looks really nice!) Vintage Modified Stratocaster. It originally had 3 Duncan SC 101 Single Coil PUs, couldn't complain about them (for the price of course). But the real great thing about this guitar is the wood the body is made of: Indian Red Cedar. Sounds much better than you'd expect it to and it's the reason why I always upgraded this guitar instead of buying a more expensive one. The Neck is also really good nothing to complain about.
But what made problems were the saddle and the tremolo. But ok, you cannot expect a really great tremolo for this price, same thing with the saddle. I just played the guitar so often that they weared off. ^^
I exchanged both, now got a bone saddle and a fender vintage tremolo, was a bit expensive all in all but well worth it. I also replaced the neck and the bridge pickup with 2 Duncan Jeff Beck Junior Mini Humbuckers. The reason was that I'm playing Iron Maiden and Single Coils are just not the right pickups for this music. (Well, and Janick gers of Maiden also uses these PUs. ^^)
All in all, the upgrades (including installation of the saddle and the tremolo by a technician) did cost something round 300 euros (I live in Germany.), so once again the price I payed for the guitar but now it sounds like a real Heavy Metal Stratocaster (Iron Maiden for example play H-S-H Strats), just great for only 600 euros!!!

I have one of the VM Thinline Teles as well and that's the only thing about it that I wasn't fully impressed with. The DD PUs were OK but the guitar is so well built I easily justified a boutique PU upgrade. I routed the neck pocket and installed a TV Jones Filtertron and stuck in a Rio Grande "Muy Grande" in the bridge. I got a Warmouth pickguard blank in an Anaconda snakeskin pattern (which the colors match exactly with the shoreline gold) and used the original as a template for the new one, just re-cutting the neck PU slot to fit the TV Jones. Like yours, mine came set-up perfectly, intonation spot on, frets leveled and polished like they should be. I also have to add that these guitars have some of the best CNC work I have ever seen. The routings on this guitar are the cleanest I have ever seen and the neck pocket was so tight I could hardly press it out by hand. The hardware and electronics are also very good quality.

Oh, as to the Classic Vibe series: I haven't played any of those but people are snatching them up left and right and screaming accolades about them.

I finally found a Classic Vibe Tele the other day. It was an awesome guitar. The quality of construction, fit and finish, and sound were outstanding. You get a great bang for the buck.

Now if only I had some money!!!

I have the Vintage Modified Strat HSS.

http://www.squierguitars.com/products/search.php?partno=0301210574

It's a good deal for a beginner, but most of my friends who have been playing longer have cheaper ones.

PS: is the contest still going?[/url]

Personally I think the Vintage Modified, Classic Vibe, and Standard Series Squier Telecasters are great...

So great, that when I play a MIM Fender, I ask myself,"Is this MIM Fender Standard worth the $400+ they want for it, when a guitar that is $100-200 less than that is just as good? I mean do I really want to pay an extra couple hundred so the headstock says Fender instead of Squier?"

I guess after 7 Squiers, I never answered yes to my questions...

I A/Bd one against a Standard Squier. Yes, they both were built and played well; no, IMO, the Vintage Modified aren't worth a C note more. YMMV.

I found an '80s era MIK Squier Strat on ebay for about $150, maple neck and fretboard. Decent guitar, they are worth what you are willing to pay for them.

I have also heard really nice things about the vintage series... however I Would recommend if you have the money for a standard fender then go with it but if you want to spend less then go with the squier :)
