I am contemplating putting in some 2008 MIA Telecaster Std pickups into a new Squier Vintage Modified Thinline.

Will the Squier's existing electronics (pots, caps, etc.) work okay with this drop in?

The 250 pots on a Strat won't work with a standard humbucker. I used the mini Duc Buckers and they work o.k. Probably cause they are set up for Strats.

You can always consult with the manufacturer. They will send you a wiring diagram if needed. Then you can either do it yourself or have a tech set it up for you. You can do it with a bit of patience and maybe some help from an electronic hobbyist.

Go for it!

The Squier's existing electronics can be used however...

With single coil pickups, the pot value of choice is generally 250K. With full sized humbucker pickups, the pot value of choice is generally 500K. The cap choice with the 250Ks is usually .047mf; the 500Ks, .022mf.

What's the difference? (Unscientifically) 500Ks allow for a wider frequency range. Hence, they are a better choice for more powerful pickups like humbuckers. 250Ks on the other hand, compress the frequency response of the pickups so they don't sound too thin and tinny. As to the caps, the higher number of the two, bleeds off more highs as the tone pot is turned down.

MANY players do use either pot for either type of pickup, same as the capacitors (and then some). Many also mix them in the same circuit, depending on their own personal tastes.

Before you start buying all sorts of components, try your existing circuit first. If you like it, great. If not, then make your adjustments.

Okay, it is done. I put Fender MIA Tele Std pups into my Squier VM Thinline Tele.

The results: Hoochie Mama!!!

I am not sure where allthe humbucker responses came from. This was purely a single-coil one-for-one replacement.

I was giving the Squier's DD pups too much credit, evidently. The DD pickups provided some nice tone, and they are very well made. But the MIA pups make the guitar sing. Drastic difference. Beautiful tones all around and gobs more sustain. No comparison between the two. Not bad for a $40 upgrade off eBay. I still have not spent $300 on the Squier between the guitar and pickups. It even inherited a Fender HSC from a Fender Strat that got upgraded. It is an amazing guitar.
