Anyone else here have a purple-body 2000 model Indonesian-made Squire Affinity Strat? I've never seen a purple one other than the one I have so I have to wonder why purple? Were they made to commemorate something associated with the color purple or was it simply an offered color that year?

Indonesian S/N (assumed Agathis body)
rosewood neck
black pick guard
black pickup covers
white tone and volume knobs
white pickup selector knob
nothing really remarkable about it except the color.

Are you the only owner of the guitar? I am wondering if you got it from someone else if they did a custom paint job? Or perhaps it was some Candy Apple Red that got a bit of blue, or maybe some blue that accidentally got some red mixed in at the factory. If you have a photobucket account you should post some pics...

I'm not the original owner but the paint looks too good to be custom. There's also a small chip missing so all layers appear to be purple. If I can remember my photobucket login I'll post the pics.

If that's the IC0003/March 03 strat, the color jumped out to me as well. Actually it was the serial # that caught my eye, as the owner of a Shoreline Gold 00' Standard. If no issues with the jackplate, I say she's a keeper. Maybe the goal was "Midnight Blue"?.

I've got a 2002 Affinity anniversary Squier that looks to be a cross between purple and a dark blue almost a factory violet shade. Bought her used and she's been hotrodded extensively. I've got a step-nephew that played her one night and he asked me three times within five minutes if I wanted to sell her. Mine is the only one I've ever seen with this body color and it was supposedly bought in a Squier Strat pack.

Sure sounds like the #573 (color) that was discontinued in 02'. Is the date of your Affinity after January 02'?

Which digit in the serial # is the month? All I know is mine has the anniversary neck plate and what I know about the serial number it's a 2002 and it was made in Indonesia.

Not sure about the Affinity, I don't own one. But I do have a couple of standards and based on those it's the 3rd/4th numerical. The history of the instrument is a plus, but if you enjoy it, that's really all that matters.

I have a Squier just like the one you're describing! It's purple, and I've never seen the color before on any Fender or Squier. And it's not refinished, there are some scratches in it and it appears that purple was the original color. It's also an Indonesian with a rosewood neck. The original pickguard, pickup covers and all other plastic hardware was white though. I've since changed the knobs and pickguard and it's in the shop now getting loaded with Texas Specials. Otherwise I'd post a serial number to compare, I will when my guitar's out of the shop.

It was my first guitar, purchased in 2003. It was a rental guitar from Mars Music in Houston. I thought it was fairly old at that time because the neck had begun to age. When Mars Music went out of business another guitar store bought some of their old rentals and were selling them. It wasn't in the best condition when I got it. I was told by the people in the music store that it was a custom color that Mars Music had done, but I don't know if that's true or if it was the only explanation the people at the music store could think of. I was always going to email Fender about it, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. None of the serial numbers listed on Fender.com match. The one that came closest was some special early 90s guitar, so I assumed it was early 90s. I'm starting to think it might be newer then that now based on the information in this thread. I'll get pictures and the serial number as soon as I get it back. If you could post some pictures of yours I could tell you for a fact whether or not yours shares the same color as mine.

I just found this thread..so I'm going to revive it.

I also have a purple Squier Affinity Strat made in Indonesia in, I think, 2000. (I'll check this when I get home today). The purple is definately the original, factory color. Mine has a white single ply pickguard and white knobs and pickup caps with a rosewood fretboard on a maple neck with skunk stripe.
I got it used in excellent condition from the original owner who lived in Northern Virginia (a Craigslist buy for $60). I was thinking about swapping out the neck for one with a maple fretboard, but considering the complications involved with that, I've changed my mind. Also, the darn thing plays and sounds so nice I'm reluctant to mess with it.
My wife is known locally as "The Purple Princess" since everything she has must be purple. I got the purple Squier as a kind of joke, but now I like it too much to sell it or modify it.
I'll post some photos when I get home this evening. I'd like to see some photos of other purple Squiers to see if the color shades are the same. Anyone care to post some photos of their purple Squiers?

Here's 2 photos of my purple Squier Affinity Strat. The serial number is IC 0004xxxx. Colors can be difficult to capture accurately in digital photography, put this is pretty much what the color looks like in terms of shade and tone.

Anyone else have photos of their purple Squier?

At 8:30 a.m. today, i met a guy in a Ralph's parking lot to
check one of these out & came home w/ a flawless axe.

It was a Craigslist thing...i put a 'Sell Me Your Squier Strat" ad out
requesting Black/Maple, White/Rosewood or Purple/Rosewood models.
I only got one reply, despite the abundance of Squiers on Craigslist, & it
was for this purple one, which seems to be the more rare of the three.

This thing is freakin' pristine, w/o so much as
a mark anywhere on her Barney Purple body.

My Purple is a 2000 model & looks exactly like the one posted above,
except it's a CY serial number 'Crafted In China' rather than Indonesia.
The other difference is that mine has an 8-hole pickguard instead of 11.

Great neck on this thing...

I think i'm in love..&
her name's Pebbles.

How amazing! And it's a year 2000, like mine and the others written about above. Interesting that yours is from China and is an 8-hole guard. It does appear to be the same shade of purple as mine. I'm assuming it is also an Affinity model, yes?

Affinity, yes!

Sorry, i meant to post that.

I normally stay away from the Affinity's, just because they rarely
ever feel good to me when i pick one up, but this one's really killer.

I'm very happy w/ it. :D

Actually mine (same year, same color, Made in Indonesia) originally had a white 8-hole too. I changed it to a purple 11-hole 'guard.

I added a few pictures of it to my photobucket album. I've since changed the purple knobs back to white ones.
