Yeah, I've seen some very high quality examples of early Squire Teles and Strats that play excellently. I have played some Squires at GC that were pretty nice, however, I have also seen the junk guitars that come included in the Strat Pack, and believe me, those are NOT to be taken seriously if you are anything but a rank, rank beginner. The same can be said though, of the Epiphone guitars that come in their packaged bundles. Most of the guitars included in the Fender, Gibson bundled "Starter" packs are barely better than than those from First Act!!!

Well you obviously haven't played the strat I got out of the squier "stop dreaming, start playing" kits.

if these are the bundles you are talking about.

The guitar i got in this package is a really decent guitar. not true fender obviously. but definitely not junk.

its very solid and durable. no hardware has worn out yet, the sound is actually very decent, put it through a good amp... and the sound is good.

the only problem i've had with mine is the G string goes out of tune now and then with some tremolo use. but either than that it was a great value for what i paid.

well maybe some of them are junk, cant really say myself, as i havent played every single one. but from what i have... there mighty fine guitars.

I'm going to throw in my .02, since this seems to be a lively discussion. I'm not in any way an "expert" but I think I've been at this longer than most, and I have experience in the Fender vs. Squier field.

The original topic of this thread is "can a Squier be as nice as an American Strat ?" The answer is a simple "no". And there's many reasons to support that answer. There are plenty of fine Squier guitars out there, but the list of variables about them, that over time, decline the quality of it, everyones experiance and stories about the topic will be different, thus resulting in 4 pages of this thread, and coultless others on other forums that never actually get the poster or reader anywhere.

Most of the opinions and facts about the 2 guitar lines comes down to the old Jr. High math proof that "a Square can be a rhombus, but a rhombus can never be a aquare."

I purchased a Classic Vibe 50's Strat last month. I have been playing the hell out of it and in my opinion ,it is definately one of the best Squier guitars to come out in a long time! According to there advertising they are supposed to bring back that original Squier quality and "Vibe" from the first release of the Squiers from back in the 80's.. Check one one out if you get the chance.

+1 I own a CV 60's and it is awesome. Is it as good as an American Stratocaster, no. However, I would put mine up against any MIM Standard that is still stock. I played many MIM Fenders looking for a good 2nd guitar and it was the CV that got my money.
