hello everyone. i just bought a squier affinity series guitar. i was talking to a buddie of mine and he was telling me my string were to far away from my neck. is there a proper way to do this? and whats the best strings for the guitar. i was thinking the flat wound strings. thanks for the help.

You can find setup information on this website or you could google it. There should've been instructions with the guitar but I assumed you bought it new which you might not have. One main thing you want to consider is that when you fret the string it needs to clear the fret below it so that it will sound. They give measurements to guide you. Mine might be a bit low but I am happy with it. The straightness of your neck will be an issue. A convex or concave neck will yield different clearences on the fretted string depending on the amount of curvature and where you fret. Anyways just read and re-read the material untill you understand it. The more you use it the easier it becomes.

yea i bought it new but it had no info on the guitar in the box. i did a search but haven't found anything yet. but thanks for the info. there is enough room to put a quarter under the strings on the 12 fret.

gomania16 hey thanks for the help. i took it back to the shop i bought it from. they fixed me right up. even put new strings on. old ones had rust. got a free set of elixir super lights. sounds great. and fingures don't hurt as bad.
