I have a 2004 Squire Deluxe series Satin Trans Fat Strat that I have been playing a lot lately. It has a solid mahogany body, which is rare for Strats. It gives it a nice warm tone. The look of the honey satin finish is really nice too. It has a satin finished neck, which is smoother on the hands than a glossy finish. It has a 2 point fulcrum tremelo, which I feel is just as nice as the American Standard unit. It stays in tune pretty well for a non-locking trem. It has the HSS set up with a Duncan designed humbucker and 2 Alnico V singles. The pickups sound really nice, and provide a wide pallette of sounds to choose from. All in all, I am very pleased with my purchase.
PS I bought it used in MINT condition, I mean not a scratch anywhere, and NO signs of ever being played, for $140 at a pawn shop!!! It even had the plastic film on the back plate and control cover plate!!! Not too bad huh??
I know it isn't a "Fender" really(it's made in Indonesia), but for what I paid, it is really nice. I have thought about selling or trading it, but after I play it, I just can't part with it.

I have to agree that the classic vibe series is the best guitar bang for your buck. I have a CV60s and it is great. The 50s looks just as good, but I wanted a rosewood FB and sunburst. Another great buy is the Deluxe, especially if you want maple fretboard. The satin neck is sweet. The Deluxe has the 2 point system, CVs have the 6 point. I can find no hard evidence that one is better than the other. Play em bouth if you can and then decide.

Either of those can be had for under $300 new delivered.

Good Luck,
Randy

2004 Satin Trans Fat Strat, stock except Fender vol/tone knobs and Floyd Rose trem bar. It says Standard series on the headstock, but in Fender Fronline catalog, it is included in the Deluxe series. I dunno why!! The color is more the dark photo. I used 2 different digital camerasImage

Best Squier...?
Hands down it's the Squier Esprit!! I picked one up on a whim and what a player that thing is. With the chambered body it sounds rich, full and jazzy. It's like having a ES335 that plays like a sweet strat!! I have mine in the natural mahogony finish and it's quite stunning even sitting in the stand.

I've had this guitar for about a year and every time I've used it at the jams or a party everyone wants to play it. Nice guitar that you don't see very often. Fender should seriously consider making more of these.

Honestly, I would go with the Classic vibe series or the Vintage modified series. Those two are pritty rockin'.

As per my first post HERE I have a mid eighties MIJ strat which has a beautiful and fast neck and sounds absolutely superb. I am not sure of the make of the tuners but they have the fender scroll on them and the little string runners have rollers on them not just guides. The made in Japan is a transfer just under the stratocaster transfer and the serial number is a transfer beneath the squire name.
Sorry to hijack the thread but here's the pics.

I dont know what the best Squire is per say, but I LOVE my starcaster! Out of the box the guitar was speaking my language! I havent really played seriously for about 5 years and this thing has me soooooooooooo hooked. If you get a chance, pick one of these fast little guitars up. you will not be dissapointed.
