I believe Epiphone SG will be better for you in time ;)

If you don't already have an amp and tuner and some of the other stuff included in the starter pack, then I say get the pack. If you already have those things, then just get the guitar. Did you mean just an Epi SG or the Epi SG Starter pack? I think they still make those...depending on which Epi SG you are looking at, you'll be spending more on just a guitar than a guitar AND amp, so to me it depends on what you need and what amount of money you are looking or wanting to spend...

Hey Brentok, if you plan to stay with the guitar then spend more on your starter pack. The pack that is or was 350 bucks is great... it comes with a better amp than the 15g Frontman (or Squier SP-10) and an Affinity HSS guitar which will give you a broader range of sounds as opposed to a SSS guitar. I wish I would have bought it instead of my SE starter pack. However, I love my guitar.... alot.

i dont really LIKE humbuckers because when i look for a strat i want single coils and i dont really need a broad range of tones just rock/blues/county and im (kinda) sure i can get thatwith the $200 dollar set and im really cheap

Then I think you just answered your own question...

Besides, lots of people have started playing with that starter pack. If it suits you, go for it.

I really like my sunburst alot! Rock/blues/country says HSS to me. However I am a person who chooses inexpensive items also and I did get the SE starter pack. If you wait untill Black Friday you may be able to get as much as 20 percent off which will reduce 200 to 160 or if you got the 250 pack it would only be 200. Either way you will have a good setup. 160 is a good savings and BF is only 15 days away or so.

Interesting comment Wild Rose. You are not liking your Strat? You might need to change out the neck eventually for a more comfortable contoured style. Hopefully you can find a luthier in Greece that can do that for you.

I don't think the SG is worth the money unless it has a better neck which I doubt at that price. Plus you are giving up the tremelo which if you modded the SG with a Gibson style would still look aweful. Wonder what it would look like with a Floyd Rose.

Anyway, great and interesting advice from all. I'm sure Brentok will make the right decision.

It's just that I've read more positive comments about the Epiphone SG rather than the Squier Strats!

I almost put one on layaway but I kept hearing that quote from EVH something like "you can't make a Les Paul sound different". Mahogony is very dense with a great bottom end but not much on brightness. I think the new LP's are being built with maple necks straight through which are probably a lot better. Don't know if the SG follows the same build.

The guitar has to fit into the music you want to play.

I've got an LP nock off sitting in the closet because I just can't stand the growl from it through my cheap amp. But with the right effects and the right song it can change your world.
