I have been playing since 1987. I currently have a Classic Vibe in my arsenal. What an awesome guitar. It is only my second Squire that I have purchaced. I have to say I am impressed with the higher end Squires...not impressed with the lower end Squires. In fact I went out to buy a Fender MIM Strat as a second guitar and came home with this one instead.

Just a question on an affinity strat that I own and am too lazy to make a topic out of it...

What exactly does CRAFTED in China mean? Does it mean it was ONLY assembled in china?

I myself have owned a few Squiers in my lifetime, as a matter of fact my two main guitars are both Squiers! I have one from the "early" days of the brand.....it's got an awesome "Galactic Purple" finish, rosewood fretboard, and after a few modifications...(Guitar Fetish pickups, black pickguard as opposed to the white one it came with, new 5 was switch, new knobs) and for the life of me I cannot tell the difference between my brother's "high end" Fender that he paid almost 1500 dollars for and my own. It plays THAT nice....smooth buttery mids, clear defined bass, and a jangly, yet not overpowering high end without the glassy brittleness normally heard on one of these. My other weapon of choice is an Affinity Telecaster in Butterscotch Blonde. This one needed hardly any modifications...(Guitar Fetish pickups...again!....new knobs....new neck from Warmoth) and that's about it...I'm debating on whether or not I want to change the broidge, but that's neither here nor there, this guitar...(to me anyway!) sounds better than the 900 dollar Tele I tried out at the Guitar Center that I recently visited. One thing is for certain in my book. I could go out there and buy the "road worn"s and "signature" series strats & teles for a whole lot more, but in the end I can save a bundle buy the guitar of my dreams, modify it to my liking, and NEVER break $1,000.00...PLUS I get the added benefit of owning a "one of a kind" instrument that no one else has.....PLUS I get all the tone and "vibe" I can handle...If you've never tried a Squier....I would suggest getting one, giving it a complete "makeover" to your liking and then learning your instrument from top to bottom....you may find that there really is "gold in them thar hills"!....LoL!

was just wondering, aren't they part of fender anymore or is fender distancing themselves?

They are part of Fender. They don't seem to be distancing Fender from Squier in my opinion. Even the high-level John5 clinics incorporate both Fender and Squier models.

I picked up a new blemished butterscotch blonde Affinity Tele on Ebay for a decent price. Overall it has nice action and decent pups, but a lousy selector switch. The wood used for the neck appears to be a little light in weight, but with some new electrical components and wiring, I can make this into a great sounding guitar.

I bought a Tele like you have about three weeks ago (mine was made in July '07) from a video game store I deliver mail to. The selector switch on mine would crackle at the middle or bridge pickup position. Until I replace it I just shot some electronics parts cleaner into it and it works fine. But yeah it's still a crappy switch.

I've got three Squier Affinity geetars:an Indonesia 2002 Strat,a 2007 Indonesia Tele, and a Chinese 2008 Bullet Strat. The two Strats have been modded one heavier than the other. Now I'm looking for a maple fretboard for my Bullet at a DECENT price.

Here's just my .02 cent.

I've been playing the guitar off and on for 10years. Never got really good at it, never played a gig. About three or four months ago, I decided it was time I devote some quality time and money to myself and I"M GOING TO PLAY GUITAR. Over three months I've actually taught myself alot about how to play. I've been using a MG10CD amp and an Epiphone LP Special 2, and GuitarPort from line6. Not really expensive gear at all. I have two Squire guitars laying around, never really liked the tone out of them.

Currently I'm getting ready to start playing with a band, so it came time to decide what gear to really sink some money into. Not that I'm a name snob, just if I"m going to play I want to play on decent stuff. Here's why that's important for everyone to know.

I've budgeted about 1,500 dollars in January to get a great guitar. So I went to my local Sam Ash and started picking up anything and everything I thought looked good, or had the features I was after. NOTHING had the look, feel, and sound I was after. I love the look of strats but play heavy rock and metal. Instead of dropping 1,500 on any new guitar, I've decided to take my squire std, and completely build it from the body on up.

It's not a question of what "GEAR" or "NAME" you want to play, that name doesn't make the music, it's the instrument itself. If you know what tone your after, find it, or in my case, make it.

I'm going to be proud to own a one of a kind strat, SQUIRE strat. Sure I could drop the money in an American Std, but it won't have the sound I'm after, just the name.

All in all, I think Squire's make perfect guitars for beginners, and their high-end line is great for even pro's. Decide what you as the musician want to do, who cares what you play.

When I build my rig and axe here's what it's going to be.

Marshall MG100HFX Full Stack
Line6 POD X3 Live w/2nd pedal
Marshall Footcontroller
Guitar #1
Fender Squire Std Strat body w/
EMG 81/85/S
SuperVee Trem
Custom Warmoth Neck
All new parts and hardware (Screws, Wire, Pots, Jack, Strap Locks etc)
Gotoh Tuners
Guitar #2
Fender Squire Affinity Strat body w/
EMG 81/85/S
SuperVee Trem
All new hardware and parts
Gotoh Tuners

None of the peices of my rig and axe's are top of the line. It's actually intermediate, excluding some of the parts for the guitars. I've played a friends heavily modded Squire Strat and that's the closest guitar I've played to what I want, his is as follows

Squire Std Strat
Warmoth Neck
EMG 81/S/S
SuperVee Trem

When I'm playing I can't see the name on my headstock. Also since I'm busying playing I usually don't care what kind of guitar I'm holding, I don't notice it unless it starts fighting me, falling apart, or just sounds terrible.

Which my Squiers never do.

I think Squier guitars offer a lot of value in each of the series. Sure the Bullet is entry level but for $120 its still a lot of guitar. The classic vibe models are beautiful guitars especially for the money. In addition to an American Standard Strat I own a couple of Squiers and love em. I recently played a Jagmaster at Guitar Center and that will be my next purchase. A neat guitar for the price. You can own a variety of Squire guitars for the price of one American Fender or Gibson. As several have already stated in the end it comes down to the players hands. Hats off to Fender for making the Squier guitars.

I have an Affinity Tele, two Squier Bullet Strats and a Classic Vibe 50s Strat, and they're all very nice guitars that I love playing. I have to say of all of them, the CV is my least favorite, but I think it might be because of the highly-glossed all maple neck. I think I'm just a rosewood fretboard kinda guy.

Yeah my CV 60's neck is really glossy in the back too and at times my thumb gets stuck on the finish. I was just posting in another thread that I was thinking about taking some fine steel wool to smooth it out a little. Otherwise this is an awesome guitar. I prefer Rosewood over Maple, this is why I chose the CV 60 over the CV 50.
