My Stratocaster came to my hands in the mid '90s, and I didn't even really know what a set-up was until I started looking into details of my guitar other than just enjoying playing it a few years ago.

I've been playing it for over 10 years without a single set-up done, not by myself or anyone else. My question is, is it possible for the wood to become so settled in its position from lack of adjustment that I am risking the structural integrity of the guitar -- the neck especially -- by getting one done now?

Howdy from San Antonio! I'm no expert, but my gut feeling is that a set-up would not hurt your guitar. People do work on 60-year-old Strats all the time with no ill effects. I say take it to a tech you trust and git 'er done.

How-dee SAT!

I feel a little better, but this thing is my Excalibur. It's gonna take some serious self discipline to make myself get it done. Maybe worth learning to do it myself.

A set-up may not hurt as suggested, however, if you have no issues with how its set up when you play it, then it may not be that necessary, because I say if it ain't broke, don't fix it....

Boy, I hope the neck doesn't break right in half if you have to adjust the truss rod!
