I have a American made squire that I got about 15 years ago. One thing that I just noticed today is that both tone controls turn down the volume on the pickups they control. I'm not sure they really control the tone very much at all. Niether control the bridge pup. I haven't played this guitar very much I've always had others. I just thought since it was a Squire it was crap. I just kept it because my Mom bought it for me when I was 15. I've had several American Strats and Tele's and I'm starting to second guess my self about tone because this dude sounds really good. I've been a Tele player lately and just decided to pull this Squire out for no reason and I'm glad I never got rid of it. I've only seen two other USA made Squires. Has anyone else seen these? What about the tone controls? I wonder if they will ever be as valuable as old Melody Makers? This one sounds really good.

USA Squiers
USA Squiers are very rare. Some of them have a serial number with a E = Eighties (1980s) prefix, and some of them have a serial number with a N = Nineties (1990s) prefix.

USA Squiers were made for less than a year spanning 1989 and 1990 before production of Squiers went back to Mexico. This was a period when Made in Japan Squiers had stopped and then they moved Squiers to Mexico, but there was a fire in the Mexican factory which disrupted things for a few months in which Fender USA made the Squiers

I found this on Wikipedia. From the looks of it you won't see many USA's around. Could be that the wiring got mixed up due to the disrupted production/fire in the factory. Maybe they salvaged whatever they could and finished it in the US. It shouldn't be too hard to fix but I wouldn't mess with it too much if you plan on selling it. It is probably worth some serious cash and the more tampering they find (rounded off screws/cracked parts) the less you will get for it.

Maybe you can get it appraised or find another being sold to get a ballpark on the price. I'm sure there is a collector out there that would want it.

If you decide to keep it don't leave it unattended and look for a safe place to store it. It is very unlikely you will ever find it again if it gets stolen. Consider insuring it.

Good luck and enjoy it while you have it.

My Bandmate has one of these it's a E9 serial number....It's a great guitar. I started on Squiers in the 1980's and still have them. They are quite good especially the necks

I have a similar E9***** USA Squire Strat and LOVE the sound! The big dog in our group found an old retired neighbor that wanted to let it go. I haven't been able to find the value or much info on it, but its worth more than the $400 to me. Sounds better than the one I had in the 60's.

Haven't figured out the vol - tone - pup switches yet but there is the general diagram on this site. (Can't find it right now.) It is confusing to me yet.

I have been very hard to please as far as guitars go ... but this Strat does it.

Enjoy yours and play the frets off it. That 'Strat' sound from the 4th position on the pup switch is just undefineable.

I had this one for 20 or so years before noticing it was a USA built squire. Almost gave it away. I don't think it's worth much so I'll probably hot rod it.

I don't know what to believe about these USA made Squiers!

I do know that I don't trust any info on Wikipedia as it is all user info, so anybody can come up with anything and post it!

Is there any proof from Fender that these where ever made?

I've seen serial numbers on the headstock, at the base of the neck, and now a serialized neckplate! What next?

Has anyone seen info on these other than wikipedia?

I own one too, so don't take me the wrong way! It would be nice to get acurate info on these!

Yes, from what I understand, it is true that some were made in U.S.A. I think what you're supposed to do is measure the bridge saddle spacing. The U.S.A. Squiers (from what I've heard) should be the same specs as a regular Fender guitar. Squiers from other countries are made with import spacing. The string spacing is narrower.

Thanks Shredd6! I've never thought of it that way before. So just to be clear, usa spacing is ___? And import spacing is ___?

I own lots of guitars, but all are imports except for the usa squier strat I have. And I just checked my usa lead series guitars, and they all have import values! (Hardtails)

I find this facinating as this will determine if my "usa squier strat" is indeed authentic!

You've been extreeeeeeeeeeeeemly helpful indeeeeed 8)
