I play a Squier Bass (love it!) and I have always wanted to dabble in a little guitar and own a telecaster. Sound is important but realistically I am going to play through a little 10-15 watt combo practice amp... so what I really want is something comfortable and fun to play with that is a telecaster.

Will the Affinity series Tele fit the bill for this? Do I need to bump up to standard etc?

Any thoughts?

Either would do just fine. The Affinity series is made of alder and the Standard is agathis. Check out the Classic Vibes series too. They have some nice features.

cool thanks! I am going with the cheapest option as it is more of a second instrument. I will try out the affinity and see how it goes.

I just got a Squier Tele Affinity... I tried it in the music store and bought it on the spot. I have an American Strat but the Tele was impressive and I`m using it when I travel so I don`t damage any of my good guitars. You should like it, I find myself reaching for it more often than I thought I would. Good luck with your decision.....

cool thanks... that put me over the top. If you are playing it and have access to an American Tele than it is obviously a playable guitar. sweet!

My Am. Strat is my favorite and I have 2 vintage guitars but that Squier Tele Affinity is not a typical cheapo guitar. It`s very well made and the finish is really nice. The neck is smooth and the frets are big enough for me and I have large hands. The one I got is made in China and I was very impressed with the quality and tone. The single coil pup`s really put out. Play one in a music store and see how you like it.

yeah, I didnt mean to imply it would compete with the Am Tele's ... just that if you were used to that quality and still enjoyed the Squier that that is a good sign. I will probably kick down to the licensed Fender dealer and see what he has in stock over the weekend.

I used to have an Affinity Series Tele in the Butterscotch blonde, but I decided to upgrade to the Standard. The standard just has better pickups, hardware, etc. Don't get me wrong, both are great, but I just liked the standard in the Vintage blonde better for some reason...Maybe because of the Rosewood fret board or the string-thru the body design. Just felt that the standard was closer to the fender.
