I've got this problem with my Squier Affinity Strat

Recently I broke the high-E string, and so I replaced all of them cause the original string set was kinda sucky, so the strings are all new.
Being new, I have to tune my guitar really often, and I started to notice that the bridge (I think that's the name, it's the part that lifts when I use the tremolo) is getting really lifted, like if I was using the tremolo permanently.

Help me, people, you're my only hope.

There may be a couple of answers to your question.

1. You may be tuning it to too high a pitch. Are you using a tuner?

2. Your guitar needs a setup. Take it to a Tech to have it done.

I agree with Chet (there's a suprise, he knows what he's talking about). If you take it to a tech, you might want to try to find one who will show you what he's doing. It's a good opportunity to learn more about the guitar.

a friend of mine told me that if I loosen the strings and tighten(i don't know the actual word, I'm portuguese) the screws in the bridge that the bridge would go back to it's normal state, is that true?

i trust him, but I don't want to mess this guitar up : /

Yes, that's what needs to be done. If you look under the plate on the back of the guitar, you'll see springs. These counter the force from the tension of the strings. More or less your tension force from the strings got bigger than the force from the springs, so the bridge raised up. To counter this, you need to make the tension force on the springs bigger. You can do this one of two ways:

1. Tighten the screws in the "claw" (it attaches the springs to the body) until the bridge height is right.

2. Easier yet, add a spring to the back.

Check out the "Fender Stratocaster Handbook" or do a google search for "strat bridge adjustment" for some more in depth information.

Hope this helps, good luck!

Take your guitar to a tech and get it done properly.

You need to get a tuner as you are tuning it too high, and things always get weird when things get too high...If you are tuning it correctly, then there are issues/adjustments that need to be made with the trem claw (the thing holding the springs) and/or the amount of springs (not enough springs if its tilting up). Definitely take it to the local guitar tech/repairman, or if you can't do that, consult someone else you know in person who may have a bit more playing experience than you...

Going all the way back to the beginning, did you put heavier strings on when you changed them? If you did, going back to 9s might fix your problem for less than $5.

exactly. But if you did put heavier strings on, chet is right, you need a complete, professional setup.

Adjust the bridge block, maybe add a spring or two, adjust the truss rod, and readjust the intonation and raise the action.

Sorry if this sounds like gibberish

i think that might be the problem, cause when I went to buy the strings the lady at the store asked me if I wantes 0.9 or 0.10 , and I didn't know wich ones to choose so I asked her to give me the ones that are more "usual" in electric guitars, wich is, I think, the 0.10 (correct me if I'm wrong)

thx again ;)
