Hey all you Squier modders out there, need some assistance.
Does anyone know which models of Squier Strats have universal pickups routing? I want to put a humbucker in the neck of a strat to get the HSH pickup configuration.
Thanks!

You can sand it with a Dremal type tool and some patience. I wouldn't recomend a router because it could dig in too much and you have to be experienced handling the tool.

I had to sand my hard tail ash guitar to get the Duc Bucker in and it was very easy to shape so you shouldn't have too much trouble getting the humbucker in especially if you already have the pickguard to guide you.

Thanks, after reading your post I found a lot of info on the web of other people who have done this. Looks like I can just get a router extension (not sure if this is the right technical term) and expand the existing pickup cavity.
Actually, I found a link on Harmony Central re: this, and I'll post it. Not a Squier strat, but the same issue and the same tools and results.
If anyone has a recommendation for a low cost dremel, please post.

Any motor (like a drill) that would do 3500 rpm will work. It's just that a drill is kind of heavy to hold over a job like yours. Black and Decker had a tool similar to a Dremel that was very low cost. You could even use a flexible cable on your drill. But cables are usually expensive by themselves and then you would have to tie your drill down and lock the trigger for extended periods of time which could burn it.

I'm sure you can find something at Walmart or whatever discount store is in you neighbor. Don't buy anything battery powered because it won't last and it takes hours to recharge.

One last note, EVH took a chisal to his pickup mod. But I really wouldn't recomend that. Too easy to chip away a chunk of the body.

I forgot: try Harbour Freight or Northern Tools. Sometimes they have Dremal type tools.

Keep me posted.

I have to go now.

Later,
