I’ve done a fair amount of guitar modding but got this crazy idea and I like it a lot so far. Main ideas were make the neck pickup simple to be able to swap out and have a little collection of neck pickups. So I wired little connectors to a bunch of pickups. I like hard tail strats so took a squire strat and cut a hole through it. I’ll have a backplate eventually so I can cover it if I want. I replaced the neck with a MIM one. That’s the one thing where I think upgrading makes a huge difference between squire and fender. I changed the bridge to string through body and added a killswitch button. In the end it’s such a fun and lightweight guitar. I like playing blues lead style most of the time and this thing is just perfect for that. I didn’t realize how much I like light guitars until I put this together and started playing it. It was also fun to learn how to do wiring and put everything together. I’m planning a black one with just a bridge humbucker that is easy to swap out. So I’ll have a yen/yang sort of thing with these two guitars. Mixing squire and fender stuff will probably give me other ideas for more combinations. Fun stuff.

I'd love to see pics of your interchangeable pickup setup. Sounds like a clever approach.

Seems like when manufacturers have tried interchangeable pickups they always do some sort of proprietary pickup design, so you're limited to the manufacturer's limited variety of pickups. And then when the manufacturer drops the idea you're stuck.
