Post subject:  Standard Squire Strat Dating Anomaly ???

Hey guys! First time poster on the forum. I was visiting my parents over the holidays and found my first electric that I want to mod a little. I was trying to figure out the date and origin and found the it on the serial number. The problem is, I bought this circa 2005, but the serial number is CY10xxxxxx. From what I understand the CY means made in Taiwan, and the 2 digits following represent the year? It doesn't make sense because the 10 would seem to indicate 2010, but I bought it in 2005. Any thoughts or guidance would be much appreciated?

Look made in china; Post pictures.

Year by Serial number ? No china guitar dating on Fender support, all other country are there. Does it mean serial number are nor reliable ?

Chinese Squiers:

CY: Y = Yako (Taiwan) C = China. CY is followed by 2-digit year. CY appears on most models produced in China, and is by far the most common form. These forms are apparently associated with the change to Crafted in China, so post-1996 models only would have this form of serial number.
Some Chinese Gretsch's use a CY serial number.
YN is associated with 'made in china' rather than 'crafted in china' and 1996 was the year they swapped to 'crafted in china' and mostly CY prefixes.
Miscellaneous Chinese serials: CD, CT, CJ, NC: C = China, the first number following the serial number prefix is the year.
Probably made by Yako (Taiwan).
Squier serial numbers beginning with CA are made by Axl China.

That's the main rule, but remember the "expect the unexpected with FMIC"...

There were also Squiers with CY & only the first digit telling the manufacturing year...
Thus a CY1 would be 2001(ish).
