I recently bought a Vintage Modified Squier Strat, made in Indonesia. It was so nice looking and the price so low, I couldn't pass it up. Plus I wanted something I could mess with without feeling guilty. So I've found a better tremelo and now I'm wanting to replace the tuning machines with a nice locking set. I'm told Indonesia is metric, unlike the Americas and that Fender tuning machines won't fit. Does anyone know where I can get a quality set of tuning machines for my Indonesia VM Strat? I heard of one company Graphtech but am not sure those would work. Or will I just need to drill out the holes?
Thanks for any advise!

First ,start by looking here for measures, and dimensions.
I don't know if you will find some

or here;

Thanks. Hoping that someone has this guitar and can just tell me a set of tuners that will drop in and work/fit.

Thanks. Don't know. I know that Indonesian Strats are different from the Mexicans. Since mine was made in Indonesia, then it was most likely made by Cort guitars, which make just about any brand coming out of Indonesia including Ibanez and G&L.

Best ( and faster ) is to take some measure on one tuning machine and sees what is available on line.

First of all, "drop-in replacements seldom exist" is what I often use. The screw holes, guide holes etc. may need some adjusting, and lining up new tuners may need some attention.

Second, Fender hasn't published the service diagram to the VM-Strat, and there are several tuner options in the VM line, so the starting point is a bit vague.
But, you have the guitar. Take off a tuner, take the measurements (tuner & headstock) and compare to new tuners; the manufacturers have all critical dimensions available.
All that is 'part of the journey'...

Hoping someone might have an Indonesian Vintage Modified Strat who has replaced the machine tuners and will know what brand worked for them. I don't want to take off my strings or take it apart until ready to change them if possible. Not good with mechanical stuff, when I try something gets broken or ruined. That's why i don't want to do any modifications if possible. We'll see.

Forget that mod if you can't ( or do not want to ) remove only one tuner to check dimension.
10 minutes job.

I won't 'forget' anything. I'll change them when I find a set that fits.

We aren't going to do the work for you.
You have the guitar, we don't.
The manufacturers publish their measurements.
We can't do anything that you don't have the ability to do for yourself.
Why get snotty when we offer to help but won't spoon-feed you?

It's a pity that you do not take the advice given to measure one of your tuning machines.

There are so many Squier models depending on the years and places of manufacture that nothing, in my opinion, allows to be certain that a recommendation of a tuning machine will be installed on your guitar.

You talk the talk, but won't walk the walk…

That's a horrible starting point. With that, one possible outcome is "a project which will never finish".
"Don't fix it if it ain't broke" is my first advice. The second is, use a good pro if you just can't leave it alone.

That's just plain stupid and arrogant.
The VM (70's) Strat has Kluson style tuners. First of all, the original ones are quite adequate for the purpose. Second, there are a lot of K-style tuning machines, and the critical measures differ. Even if you get an answer, the fitting will not be "drop-in" - just the tolerances with original drillings, bushings, lacquer, screw holes & such will cause issues - usually minor, but sometimes accurate woodworking is required.

My input for this & any of your future questions ends here. With your attitude against people trying to help, I wish you good luck with any future questions on the forum. Have a nice day, and a happy new year.
