Hi! I'm still new to playing guitar, and the guitar I am using is my dad's Fender Squier Stratocaster made in Japan. He bought it around 1990 but never really learned to play, and the guitar has been sitting here all this time.
The serial number starts with an E and the website says that means the guitar was made between 1984-1987 https://support.fender.com/hc/en-us/articles/214343783-How-can-I-find-out-when-my-Japanese-made-instrument-was-manufactured-
Now I am learning guitar and I want to change the pickguard, pickups and knobs on the guitar, because I want to give the guitar a new look, and the white has faded to ivory after so many years.

After looking online, I found a whole list of the replacement pickguards you can by from Fender.
https://shop.fender.com/en/intl/parts/electric-guitar-parts/pickguards-backplates/
However, some of the pickguards only fit on guitars from 2004-present (unless there is something I missed).
https://shop.fender.com/en/intl/parts/pickguards-backplates/11-hole-modern-1-ply-stratocaster-sss-pickguards/0063401000.html

I want to get a black pickguard, white pickups and white knobs, and I want to make sure that all the screws line up and everything fits correctly.
Does anyone know which pickguard I need to buy and where I can buy these parts?

Maybe there is an obvious answer I am missing, and I would really appreciate help from someone who knows these kind of things.
Thanks!

Here is a google folder with some pictures of the guitar:

Big job;

SQUIER JAPAN STRATS
THERE ARE SO MANY VARIATIONS & TINY DIFFERENCES ON THE SQUIER GUITARS THAT WE REALLY NEED TO HAVE YOUR ORIGINAL OR A TRACING TO DETERMINE WHICH GUARD WILL FIT YOUR BODY WITHOUT EXTENSIVE MODIFICATION, CUTTING, & DRILLING ON YOUR END. PLEASE CONTACT US FOR MORE INFO ON HOW TO ORDER A SQUIER STRAT PICKGUARD.

If that is your guitar, then commercial pickguards will not fit due to the difference in the cutout for the bridge.
Can you post a photo?

Sorry, I didn't see that in the first post.
Funny, a LOT of System-One MiJ have been appearing this month. Almost like a collector unloaded some.

One thing to consider before the planned mods…
Those early Squiers are not very common, so it might be wise to keep it original.

BTW, getting replacement parts (if & when needed) for those early "metal monster" trems is not easy nor cheap...

^^^^ This.
While the guitar itself is probably worth $450 in its current condition, modifying it will hurt that value, and you'll be halfway into that value just for a loaded pickguard. That's not counting the bridge or cost to have the body modified to accept it.

If you aren't happy with it and want to do more than just change pickups, I would put it up for sale and use the money for a new Player series, or a nice used Strat

Thank you for all the advice! I think I'll take your advice and won't make the modifications. Maybe I'll see if I can sell the guitar or I will just continue to learn guitar using it for now. I really appreciate the help!

Good call! If it were mine, I'd leave it alone, and it would NOT be for sale.

I agree , leave it original and...keep it.

I few years from now you'll be happy to keep this guitar.
