I'm starting out so i'm definately not buying a real nice guitar.

I love the strat look and i know that Squiers have them, and i was wondering if they have the quality to make them worth buying.

Feel free to post your oppinion, thanks.

I've done a little research myself because I'll buy a Squier electric on September, and the overall conclusion is that for the money you pay, Squier is a very good choice because mainly it's by Fender! So if you're just starting to learn how to play and don't wanna waste a lot of money, I believe that Squier is a very good choice!

Spend the time to look around and I am sure you will find a quality Squier, there are lots of them out there. I have a Squier Tele.

I know this is a fender website buy Jay Turser makes great strats as well and the have been voted best low priced guitar in polls. Just an idea.

I got a Squier starter pack for Christmas, when I wasn't even sure I'd want to keep practicing and what have you. It's been fine for me while I'm learning - any construction differences between that and a better guitar were/are lost in my own errors. And now I know a.) that I like practicing guitar, and b.) I can play well enough now to try out other guitars for when I'm ready for the next one.

Your not going to go wrong buying a Squier Strat. It plays well enough and stays in tune. Later on you can make better choices based on your playing. The Strat guitar lends itself to all kinds of music unlike other guitars which might be primarily for Blues or Tex Mex/Country whatever.

So don't be afraid to jump in. You are not going to spend a whole lot of money and you won't feel preasure when you want to take a break. I doubt that will last long once you get hooked. Just stick to what you like to play and everything else will fall into place including learning other styles of music you never even considered.

If you are looking for quality splurge and get the Alder Strat ($135.00). It is lighter and is supposed to play better. I didn't notice the sound improvement over my Korean but that is something you won't hear until you get home. That sunburst paint job and maple neck are too beautiful to pass up in my opinion and might have a better resale value.

yeah! Your best bet is to buy a squier for the price and for the look. Squier is an amazing brand just under fender and their great practice guitars. But i guess it kinda depends on how quick you learn to play if its a smart idea to buy a squire instead of a fender. You also buy a fender for about 400$ and thats worth the money too.

A properly set up Squier Standard series guitar can be very comparable to MIM (or Standard Series) Fenders....

Yes, you are. You're buying a Squier. Don't believe the haters--it's a very nice little guitar. I got my Squier Standard Stratocaster professionally set up when I bought it, and it plays very nicely. I've had experienced musicians try out my guitar, and they've been very impressed by the quality and the tone. Buy a Squier--you'll like it!

^I agree with you!
btw, what set up did they do? I tried one Bullet Strat yesterday and it seemed fine straight out of the box!

I bought my guitar online from World Music Supply. It played pretty well straight out of the box, but there was a little fret buzz on the low E, and the nut wasn't cut deeply enough on the B string. I had also installed the 3rd tremolo spring, which forced the bridge down against the body.

I took it to my local guitar shop and asked them to set it to factory standards. They fixed the nut, adjusted the intonation, set the tremolo to float, and changed out the strings. It cost right at $50, and it made a big difference. This might not be necessary if you buy your guitar from a good store, but I went online. I'd buy online again, but I'd definitely go for a professional set-up.

Yep! go for a Squire. They're pretty nice guitars in general (from my experience) and you can mod the hell out of them to make them your own fully custom guitar quite cheaply. i have a 2005 trans satin std. Squire strat, and it plays just as well as my major brand guitars, and tone wise, with my upgrades and mods, rocks just as hard and can play the blues just as clean :P but i wouldn't really go for a bullet or an affinity series. check the yard sales. got mine for $50 us and spent more for the bridge p/u to upgrade it, but bottom line, i have an awesome strat for about $130 and an hour or so of labor. ( and except for the hotrails p/u in the bridge, it looks just the guitar under my nic.)

you should by a squier, first of all they are exactly the same as a strat, except they look ten times more cheesy than a real strat, but hey if u are looking for a quality strat sound and can cant afford one(most of us), then go get er' a stratocasta

I've played Squiers and Epiphones, and I own an Epiphone. The sub-brand guitars are expensive, and aren't very good quality. My friend has a Squier Stratocaster, and it goes out of tune because of the whammy bar, even when he has Grover Locking Tuners put on. Another guy I work with bought an Epiphone (par with Squier) G-400 recently, and the edge of the nut, near the low E string, cracked right off.

My advice to you is to save up at least for a Fender Standard Stratocaster (Made in Mexico). In Canada, I bought my Standard Telecaster for $600 (Strat is the same price), and I'm in love with it. I know that Gibson has the same sort of thing, with it's Korean or Japanese made guitars.

If you DO decide to buy a Squier or Epiphone, replace the tuners, and get new pickups. When you change your strings, scrape the graphite from a pencil into the notches in the guitar's nut to reduce friction. Mexican made Fenders are a much better deal for what you pay. They are Fender guitars after all!
