Hi,
I am hoping that people can help me with a question I have related to modding a guitar as a practice / 'trial run', in order to teach myself modding skills which I do not yet possess.

Because the real modding will be eventually done on a Standard Strat (probably MIM), I wondered if there is a Squier Strat model that has the same measurements/specs as a Standard (MIM) Strat?

When I was looking around for a Strat several years ago, I did quite a bit of research before buying, and also looked at some Squiers. I know that at that time things on the Squier, such as where the screws were positioned on the pickguard, were in different places than on the MIM Standard Strat, and I am hoping to get some help here about what Squier to look at (if any are suitable) that accepts the same pickguard, PU's, and so on, as a MIM Standard Strat.

Many thanks for any help you can provide.

What about the learn-to-mod aspect?
Meaning; if the screws on a pickguard don't fit, fill & redrill, and do it well enough so the new pg sits without warps. If a CRL switch is too tall, make room for it (and routing through a thinner body is a part of the journey…). If the tuning machines posts are too big, ream the holes - preferably without cracking the headstock, and in a straight line. Etc.
Going that long way will give you confidence and skills, so when you choose the MIM, you can (almost) forget the [sarcastic]minor fitting issues[/sarcastic].

On the Squiers compatibility, models above Bullets and Affinities have a full thickness body, and so do the SE's. Other than that, parts fitting can't be guaranteed, especially since you don't yet have the MIM to compare with.

BTW, one hint: get quality tools - or at least learn to know which ones must be high-Q and where you can save.

Ya.. "trial runs" and teaching yourself most things can be accomplished on planks of wood.
I ended up buying a slab of mahogany and a spalted maple veneer sheet so I can practice application, as well as pre-view stain coloration before I begin work on my Les Paul kit.

Learning drilling and fitting is pretty basic. Routing can be scary, but it's not rocket science.
Reaming tuner holes can be the most tedious... or drilling pin holes for locking tuners, especially if it is a semi-valuable guitar.

Painting and finishing are the most difficult. There are a lot of YouTube videos that show some good methods... and some show the results that you can expect... but getting something factory-quality is only going to come from experience.

Buy a new or recent Squier Stratocaster Standard made in Indonesia and almost every part will fit. There may be a few variations from the Fender Strat but they should be few and far between.
