Hey, I was trying to recommend a VM jazzmaster for a buddy after getting one two or three months ago, and now everywhere I look, they're gone. Not even on the official site.

Any reason why they were discontinued?

They've seemed to have discontinued quite a few Squier models, especially the basses. I guess either they didn't sell a lot of them, or they might be planning on putting out something else. They still have at least 9 other models, from what I've found.

I looked again, and I found this on the Fender page: https://shop.fender.com/en-US/squier-el ... ic-guitars

They have them again.

The disappearance, if it's just temporary, may have something to do with the fretboard; "Rosewood" to "Indian Laurel".

But in general, any FMIC instrument series may come to an end any day without notice, and the subcontracted ones are naturally more prone for sudden ends. (Remember the Modern Player HH Jazzmaster, the black one with pearloid plastics, maple fretboard & block inlays?)

If the buddy can't find a VM, maybe test the Squier Deluxe version - there are the non-locking trem and the hardtail options.
