A friend of mine bought a new squier, I wasn't sure what kinda wood it is.

He bought his Squier strat new like 8 months ago, I think it is an Affinity Series if I remember it correctly.
How can we look at the guitar & figure out what wood the body is?
It would be cool if there was a way of knowing

Your best bet is probably going to be running the serial number. The current Affinities are either agathis or alder.

I have a 2004 Deluxe series Satin Trans Fat Strat and it has a solid 2 piece mahogany body, which is rare for Fender/Squire. It is a sweet looking guitar with a satin honey transparent finish.
