To the best of my knowledge, they use everything from plywood to alder. It depends on which model it is. Usually if the guitar has a transparrent finish, it will have better wood.

Someone was saying somthing about alot of squiers having basswood bodies? Is that true at all?
A friend of mine bought a new squier, I wasn't sure what kinda wood it is.

Yes. Basswood is commonly used on Squiers. If it's a new guitar, you should be able to look up the specs for it and find out for sure.

Basswood or poplar is often used. They both look similar though, well to me.

I have never owned squier guitars or any low line fender models for that matter.
So I don't know alot about them.
Which brings up possibly the dumbest question I have ever
asked in here as a seasoned guitar player. lol
Do squier guitars have anything to do with Billy Squier the artist?
If that is as dumb of a question as I think it is u don't have to answer me.
Just take off your glove & slap me with it! heh heh

Nope...here's a link to the wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squier

This is the story since it was bought by Fender. Before that it was a quality manufactuer of instraments, not necassarily a low end company of the time. I believe they were also heavily involved in stringas at the time.

Also just because its a Squier does not meen that its crap...I have had a couple over the years, and with a good setup, they are descent.

I concur. Some of the newer models are made of Indian Cedar. Can't vouch for those, but the 2 I own (one Alder/Agathis) are very nice.
