Hi there, everyone :)

Yesterday I bought a '00 Squier Affinity Series Telecaster with Top Loader string bridge (I hope it makes sense...) and a little problem occurred, while I was setting the string action.

First off, I started by taking the guitar apart, to check everything and do some maintenance. I removed the neck and found a little shim in the neck pocket.. a piece of plastic, about 2.5cm wide and 1.5cm deep. It was placed at the bottom of the neck pocket and somewhat in the middle.. I decided to remove the shim, to see if it was really needed. I got the guitar back together, strung it up and started the setup.

Neck relief was good, so I went to set the bridge action, and I noticed that the string action was quite high, but that could just be the cause of me removing the shim from the neck pocket. Well, luckily for me, the bridge saddles were adjusted up high so I had no problem with getting the action that I wanted... but, something happened, and I'm not quite sure if this is just fine or if I have to do something about it.... take a look at the pictures:

As the pictures show, it seems that the low e-string saddle is sitting at an angle, and I don't know if it's good??
I believe the low e-string is catching the bottom of the saddle, also being the reason for the curve/angle..

What's your take on this, guys? :)

Thanks & Cheers!

I don't care about that or if you don't like the look of this saddle you may do a small job with a file

So, you say that it really doesn't matter? :)

Small job with a file - what exactly?

Cheers! :)

Under the saddle where the string catch the bottom , if it is the issue, you have to look carefully. Remove some steel with file if you can. Picture under the saddle will help

Cheers! :)

Here's a second opinion: put the shim back. I'd say whoever set it up previously, knew what he/she/it was doing. Good (low) action (with a shim) but high saddles is an age old trick for a good guitar sound - the string break angle over the saddles, 'downforce' and so on.

Now you have saddles crooked and hanging on the strings, saddle screws need shortening and who knows what else...
