Hey everyone!
I'm new here so I'm sorry if there has been a similar thread, I tried look for one but couldn't find one.

I'm about to buy a Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster, but I can't decide if I want the Sunburst one or the Sonic Blue.
Problem is that at my local shop, the Sonic Blue cost about 100 dollars more than the Sunburst for some reason.

Just based on that, I thought the Sunburst are given because.. why not get it a bit cheaper if you can?
And also thought I'd get myself a hard case for it for the spare money.
But I don't like the tortoise pickguard and never liked it, and I'm not sure if it will look very good with a plain white one.

So what do you guys think? I want to hear your opinions here, and also which pickguards that could look good on both the Sonic Blue and the Sunburst version.
Would be greatful for your opinions :)

You must like the guitar first , if both play same in store buy the one you like more, the sonic Blue.

After you could find money for a case or a good gig bag.

Remember , amp is more important for a good tone than the guitar. You must pay more for a low power amp than you pay for a guitar.

In Canada, all Jazzmaster Vint Mod are same price for any color ; $539.99

Yes you are right, and the only one that I've tried out has been the Sonic Blue.
But I went down to my local store today and they said that they where going to order in the Sunburst version and have in store, so they will call me when it arrives so I can try it out first.

I do have a nice amp already (Fender) so I'm not concerned for that :)
I also have in my mind of getting a hard case for my strat and something for this Jazzmaster as well.
Thank you for your respond :)

If I'm correct, it's a FM 212R.
My brother bought this.. maybe 15 + years ago, and when he got another one it just stayed with me.

You'll get along just fine with the amp.
On the guitar choice, I agree with stratele52; get the color you really want. I'm a bit surprised of your local shop pricing policy, but maybe there's something we don't know, like a setup included. And there's always the choice of ordering online; webshops use same price - any color policy.

The need for a hard shell case depends. If you travel with the guitar often, and/or gig, it's a must.
If the humidity changes where you live are big, it's recommendable.
But if you play mostly at home, and there's no unusually big risk the guitar would get damaged, a soft pouch (or a wall hanger) is usually enough.

I won't give advice on which color to choose, it's so personal. And pickguards are relatively cheap, change later if necessary. (As a side note: My favorite is the Olympic White, maybe with a Pearloid pickguard...)

But one advice I give: any new guitar needs a setup. Use a (good) pro, if you don't know the routine.

Yeah I'm quit happy with that amp. I'm using everything mostly for playing at home, recording at home and such.
But the reason I want to get a hard case is because I don't have any space on my walls for more guitars, and with synths and stuff everything is getting crowded, so I would like to put a guitar I don't play much on in a hard case and throw it under the bed or something.

But also taking them with me to places from time to time.
I've pretty much settled on the Sunburst guitar, and I'm planing on changing the pickguard and the pick up covers to black. But I was a bit concerned about "if I chose one color, what other pickguards can I use" and be very limited to what I actually find beautiful on a Jazzmaster.
But I think the Sunburst with black pickguard will make my day :)

I like white guitars with perloid pickguard, and I've had that on my white strat for 10 years or so, I've just recently changed that to a red pearl instead.
And I've had two white guitars mainly for 10 years +, I want a little more color in my life :P
And in regards to the color policy there.. I don't know why, but they are selling it to me for less, and they told me that a free set up is included and I know those guys are great with that stuff so I'm very excited :)

After two years of not being able to play, I had to hand in my strat to a local luthier for a set up because.. well it didn't feel as I remembered it. But now, it feels like playing on clouds - it really is that awesome!
Thank you for your great respond and opinions :)

Hey guys!
I wanted to say thank you for your help, and also let you know that my Squier turned up two days ago and I couldn't be happier.
I'm SO impressed and stunned by how great this guitar is :)
Thanks!
