hello mates...
i need your help my friends !!
i play guitar since 2000, i play blues and "dire straits"...i played electric lot of times, but the instrument wasn't "mine", and now i want my own, and i want (without breakin' the bank) a good instrument ...i've been through catalogs and sites ... and i think i have the choice between a "squire vintage modified strat SSS", and the new "Squier Classic Vibe 50's Strat"....so which one will i choose...i'm not "an expert" in pickups so help me please... i know that the first one contains 3 Custom Vintage Style Single-Coil (alnico III), and the second contains 3 Duncan Designed™ SC-101 Single-Coil Pickups (alnico V).....so which one is more adequate to that style of music...?!
please answer ...i'm waiting for your reply !!
thank you mates...

I would test them out first and see which one is right for you. Also my 2 cents is you might give a Squier Deluxe Hot Rails strat a try. Because of its high output and it is cheaper that both guitars you have listed. In the end it is you who must find your sound. Hope this helps. :)

thank you mate for reply..
but there's just a little problem  ! i'm in the other side of the planet, i'm not in US or canada and where i am there's no fender or gear of that kind, but i have some family in canada, and their mission is to send me this gear, so there's no way for me to test anything...
i just want it, brand new from a fender dealer, sent to me accross the atlantic...and ready to be played by me and only me for the first time !!
i don't have Chelsea FC's budget  , so i want just a frontman 15R amp with it , california cable and a Gig bag, and strings of course (who knows  )
by the way , i thought about the SQUIER Deluxe Hot Rails Stratocaster , but there's the same pickups (the duncan's) of the vintage modified one i think. i wonder if that duncans are more close to the hot sound of the dire straits early years than the customs with alnico 3 of the squier classic vibe 50' strat!!...sorry for being so complicated
thanks friend..

Hi, I actually have the same problem(except that its the Classic Vibe 60) and if some one could give some advice it would be great. I too live outside of the US (in the Caribbean) so I'm unable to try before I buy, so your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

hot rails are hr-101 and vintage modified strats use sc-101 one is a humbucker and the other is a single coil type pick up. Mark Knopfler's signature strat has Texas Specials which are higher in output than single coils. That is why I suggested hot rails. It is your choice. :)

hello !
thanks for all these advices friend , but i don't have much time before the deal, and i think i choose the Squier Classic Vibe 50' Strat ! i just think that i feel it, ...color, the maple neck, the white pick guard and the aged plastic parts , and the features of a true fender Classic serie of the 50's !! for my first electric one , i think it's a great choice ! i've been playin' yamaha acoustic ,yamaha classic guitars, takamine acoustic , chinese guitars , yukulele !!! even banjo  , and electric of course, but never my own electric !!!!! so, i think i'm gonna close the circle with a first electric one, a squier , and it's a squier with a style of fender guitars of the period when it all started for the strats ..you know ..!!
by the way, i say to my friend dneruck !! if you are a fan of the deep sound of the 50's 60's , run and buy the classic vibe one, but if not, and you want a strong and modern sound , just choose something else (maybe the hot rails one just like mate "wvralph" said !! ).
About mine , there's no test, it is all surprise for me !! i hope my feeling for this axe will bring me a good one (i trust)!!
See you next time mates !

friend wvralph !!! about the knopfler signature one !! it is not the same guitar of the Dire Straits time , i think the poor mark own'd a copy of a fender strat in his early times of playing !!!
the one he played in sultans (the studio version) is a simple fender , simple pickups, simple strings !! even the volume button was out  !!!
It's the kind of things that bring me courage to improve my playin' !! we are in 2008 , we have the possiblity to get supa' gear for less money, the rest is just between our Hands (Fingers i mean  )...
See ya..
