Bought a used VM Jaguar. The guy said he put a mustang bridge on it as upgrade. Problem is guy didn't put sleeves in the holes so there is little to no adjustment. Also, I tend to bend the E up high and pop it out of the saddle. Is there a recommended replacement for the bridge you guys like? Also, a good tuner replacement recommendation. Thx, I am a newbie.

The absolutely best advice I can give you is, invest a little more money to the guitar and have it set up by a good professional guitar tech.

Fixing a Jaguar, equipped with a Mustang bridge "upgrade" that's done wrong is no job for a newbie - learn with easier guitars.
(You'd have to consider the posts, their holes, bridge height, neck and bridge radius, neck angle & shimming, saddle grooves, string gauge etc; plus do a full setup on the guitar - plus it has the non-floating trem which is the more difficult one.)

I am a finish carpenter and don't mind the task of upgrading it. Fun challenge.
I was wondering if there is a good after market bridge. I can rig what's here if needed. What I really don't like is the string popping out of the groove when I bend notes.
Like the guitar, needs some tuners, bought it cheap ish and like fixing stuff.
Thanks for your reply.

Hmph, I had the feeling you're gonna gung ho! go for it! geronimo! and DIY anyway...

OK, let's start the 'real advice' part - a caveat, though: internet diagnosing ain't easy, and every internet advice (including mine) is to be handled with caution.

The first thing to do is fix the bridge posts issue; you need to be able to adjust the bridge height.

Then, if you're lucky, the bridge popping E-string might get better if you shim the neck backwards, maybe switch to thicker gauge strings, too. The idea is to get more string angle over the saddle; more 'downforce'.

At this point I don't think getting yet another bridge is the answer. When the setup is what is should be, Jags play just fine with the original threaded saddle bridge, and a Mustang bridge is considered by many an upgrade.

Same thing about the tuners - if they're mechanically OK (= not broken), they will do their job. No need for an upgrade, unless you want something extra; different ratio/locking tuners etc.

If you need help on the bridge posts issue, include a few pics (bridge on/off, holes etc.), and let's go on from there.

Kinda in the same boat as Tom..I've yet to purchase my Jaguar VM bass Vl 6. There are quit a few how to video's on y tube relating to this.
I know that I am going to address this problem but, being forearmed before the purchase (tax return)
will be nice.....??? Help!! Will there be any further problems to to the larger sting size? I am ready to file-widen the groves for this. Any other advice or recommendations..? Sorry Luther's are an unknown
in this neck of the woods of the woods and am perfectly happy to "make or break" my own mistakes.
