Nah. If it's not broken don't fix it. Maybe you should've just added the price of the guitar and pickups and bought a more expensive guitar. At least use it stock for the duration of the warranty.

The main difference is the sound and tone. I put texas specials in my MIM strat and it sounds fantastic. I used to own an affinity tele and I am familiar with the sound.

These are fantastic pickups for blues, modern and classic rock. They are not great with a lot of distortion, but still better than the stock pickups in the affinity.

Change in pickups are a great place to start for less expensive guitars. When I had my affinity tele. I put SD hotrails in the bridge and a vintage tele pu in the neck and had it setup by a professional and it rocked. I would put that up against a thousand dollar guitar because it was perfect for me.

Of course that guitar is gone now because I wante to do some different stuff for a while. I change guitars a lot. That being said I am a firm believer in cheaper guitars and then moding the to fit what I want. I currently am changing the pu's in a squier tele custom. It's the one with 2 humbuckers and I am putting in Alcino 2 pus in to really rock. I think that the right squier can be a great platform to add to.

The key is often a good professional setup. It might cost 40 or 50 dollars but its worth it. Get someone who really knows what they are doing to do this. And make sure that they also file down any sharp frets, as squiers can often have these. It will really turn your guitar into something special.

I say go for it!

This is my opinion, hope its helpfull.

You would be happy with the results. I have a 89 Squier Tele with Fenders "Vintage Tele" pickups in it (This is my favorite guitar of all time) I have a 94 MIM Tele with Texas Specials (My main work Tele)

The pickup change was great on both. I never liked the lead pickup in my 94 MIM. The 89 Squier sounded good, but I wanted to Get the James Burton sound off my old Ricky Nelson records.

I tried a new Std Squier Tele last week. I liked it (I have Tele's already) so I didn't buy it (Got a new Jazzmaster)

Don't let anyone tell you they are bad guitars 8)
