When the Fender costs to much thats when you set out and build your own.

I vote for the Stratocaster. The only Tele I like is one...

http://www.fender.com/products//search. ... 0137702392

I played one in the store and wow. This would be the only Tele I would buy.

RK

Edit:

Ok the Telecaster is really starting to grow on me. I used to not like the headstock, but the more I see them the more I am starting to like them. I forsee a Telecaster in my future. I still like the one in the above link the best, but am considering a different one now. Oh well that will have to wait for a few years.

I posted a while ago here but...

Strat. I do like Teles though. I do see myself with one in the future, but all the complaints tele lovers have about strats, I can't find.

The middle pickup is practically not there
I never hit the volume control when playing
It has plenty of punch if you mod it
It looks way cooler with a whammy bar
The comfort contour body can't be beat

Asking to pick between the two is like asking a parent to pick their favorite kid. I have two Strats and one Tele so I guess by default the Strat wins but if I had the money I would have a Thinline Tele in a second. I agree with many before about the contour of a Strat. I don't think there's a more inviting guitar to play. That said, my Tele's neck is probably one of the best neck's I've ever played.
