In Nov 2016, CL listed a Squier II for $30 dollars so I went to check it out. Found the guitar was trashed and not in playable condition. After a chat I left there with an Affinity, the Squier II, a mini guitar with a split humbucker set up and an extra maple neck for $30. The goal get one playable guitar out of this box deal. Here's the loot:

After I removed 3 pounds of paint the Squier II shows its metal or plys.

The goal is to not spend any more money on this guitar. So, I use supplies I already had from a furniture project. The top ply on this guitar was really thin and that made me stop real short of having the wood fully prepped for staining.

Someone took a red pen to the headstock of this guitar crossing out Squier II and marking up the back. They also took a lighter to the tip burning it. Then they took a blade to the 13th fret. Sand, sand, sand, and scollop.

The humbucker that was in the guitar tested to 13 and change and since it worked it was going to get used. OUt of the 3 pots one tested and operated to 500k speck. Meaning it got the old Eddie VanHalen wiring treatment. The turners were stock on that model, they suck. I removed the covers, cleaned them, tightened the screws and lubricated them with Vaseline. They still have backlash and don't hold tune for long. I was able to keep it stable long enough to set the intonation on the beast. The trem is from the Affinity that came with the deal. Considering the Affinity was beat to poop the trem looks darn near brand new. The old one literally came off in pieces.

So all that's left is the test: I'm playing lead to a loop I recorded with the same guitar tuned in standard E running through a Holy Grail and out a Crate XT120R.

Test 2: In this test I turned on a Grunge pedal. Everything else stayed the same as mentioned in Test 1.

In the end I've got $12.50 in this guitar and that includes the new strings.

Thanks for sharing - reading this brightens the rest of the day.
That guitar is punk, steampunk, outlaw, ratrock.

Are those 9mm shells you got plugging the old pot holes?

.38 shells. The fit tight like a glove and need no glue to hold in place.
