I have one of these that I think I am going to route out the bridge pick up and put a humbucker in as well as changing the other 2 single coil pick ups. A friend of mine suggested Seymour Duncans. Has anyone done this or something similar? How do it work out? Was it hard or fairley easy?

What other mods have you done? I was thinking of changing the tuners as well. The thing won't stay in tune and I figure I am going to just use the body and neck and make something "nice" out if it. Whay do you guys think?

Unless you really want to tinker around with stuff.... Some of us do..!!

I'd sell the one you got to some other aspiring person to comp some of your money and then apply that plus what you would have spent for upgrade pieces and buy an upper scale model and save you the hassle and possible hit or miss peices and parts game.

Unless your hell bent...then I say.. Gut it and run...!!!

No I bought a MIM Tele that I am ecstatic with and just thought this would be an inexpensive way to get a geetar with a humbucker in it. I am also left handed so even the pawn shop said they would rather not...hahaha.

SO we will see. Maybe I just save my money and buy an Epiphone Les Paul or something.

thanks.

You could always try out something like Hot Rails, which are twin blade humbuckers the size of a single coil...
http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/s ... lsforStrat

That way, you wouldn't need to mod the strat to a large degree....

Just my two cents worth...If the guitar is going out of tune on you it could be that the neck has a crack or broken truss rod. If it is o.k. then the next step might be to get rid of the body altogther and get one at www.warmoth.com. They have alder for $100 that you can cut out to whatever shape you want and it is already routed. Alder is a lot lighter and the sustain will be a big improvement in your sound. Check out www.stewmac.com before you go out and spend any money on a $150 or $200 pickup. Pickups are great but you need some good wood to back it up.

Hope this helps and that the only problem is your tuners but I would seriously consider another body.

Sorry, try

http://www.warmoth.com/guitar/bodies/bodyblanks.cfm

Don't forget all these bodies are made for their own necks so you will have to shim (glue wood around neck) of sand a bit. Go easy and make sure your neck is straight (mount the "E" strings) before drilling mounting holes.

There are a lot of builder sites on this.

Hey, check this out. This is one of Ed Romans www.edroman.com rants: "A customer of mine recently brought me a Warmoth body that was supposed to be a PRS knock off. "Yeah Right" What a Joke. The quality was fine but the design was wacked out.

The scale was totally completely wrong and it actually had a flange sticking out of the body to bolt the neck on.

As near as I can figure all Warmoth products are basically Fenders with Fender scale & neck joints.

I say again, The Warmoth product is decent enough quality. They just the same old tired designs that all the big corporate guitar companies insist on using because they have paid so much for their trademarks."

That means your neck will probably fit o.k. although I think it is made for a Strat neck. The Tele neck will not look too good but they say somewhere on their web site that it will play o.k.

Ed used to have clearance stuff pretty cheep but be careful. I've heard stuff. Best to go to his Vegas store if you can.

Anyway good luck. This was too funny not to post. . I don't think Ed means much by his rants. Just trying to make some money I guess.

Hope Fender doesn't get upset.
