I have a 2002, 20th Anniversary Squier Affinity Strat, butterscotch blonde. The serial number starts with CY207_ _ _ _ _ _. I found an Aztec Gold model that has the markings under the neck of a 2002, model but not the 20th Anniversary plate. It does have a serial number that starts with CY214_ _ _ ... Aztec gold is not a common Affinity Strat color so I sent an email asking if they could confirm if the Aztec gold was a 2002 anniversary color special to the Affinity strat like the butterscotch color is to my Affinity strat. Fender says it not in there computer. I start looking in ebay and find a bunch of 20th Anniversary models listed or so they say. Each has the 20th anniversary plate but all the serial numbers showing start with _ _ 02_ _ _... While 02 would make it the correct year all the colors listed on ebay and other places are common, red, black, blue, nothing like butterscotch blonde or Aztec gold. I don't want to guess, I can guess that maybe the CY2_ _ _ serial numbers were in fact special colors for that year and that's why the serial numbers don't start with CY02_ _ _ _ but I would really like to know. Does anyone have any confirming documentation on this?

Documentation, no.
But in general, the serials may vary - e.g. sometimes it's CY + two digits year + serial, sometimes CY + one digit year + serial.
I haven't noticed that would have a connection to special (color/other) features, but who knows.

Plus, the authenticity of a guitar should never be judged on serial numbers alone.

Edit: And on Fender; they only have records on US made guitars, reaching back to 1993 IIRC.

Plus, the authenticity of a guitar should never be judged on serial numbers alone. Except for the one I bought new and have documented I don't. It's why I'm researching the aztec gold guitar. The butterscotch blonde was released in July 2002 and immediately sold out before I could get it. There was another color after, that I think was the Aztec gold, but it wasn't as special to me as the butterscotch blonde so I had very little interest. Later in 2002, Musician's Friend got another shipment of the butterscotch blonde models and I bought it immediately.

Edit: And on Fender; they only have records on US made guitars, reaching back to 1993 IIRC.

This is my documentation that I got from Squier guitars.com at the time I purchased the guitar. So I know it was a special run and color for the 20th Anniversary.

Here's a Butterscotch 20th Anni Squier Affinity, with a CY01 serial#: forums.fender.com topic
And here's a Gold (they call it Gold Sparkle, should be Aztec Gold) 20th Anni Squier Affinity, with a CY02 serial#: reverb.com item

No. The guitar pictured here is a Fender color simply known as #5. Fender blonde colors are see through. They let you see the guitar wood grain through the paint. Here is mine:
