Hello all! I have a Classic Vibe 50's strat for some time already and these last years I've been really interested on the effects one can create with the tremolo arm. I've been inclined to set my brige to floating so I can create some roaring effects but I'm not sure if I should do it. Do you recommend not doing it on a guitar such as mine? If you do, how exactly should I proceed?

Thanks in advance! :)

I don't quite get what you mean by "a guitar such as mine", but if a guitar is equipped with a tremolo, it's not there just for looks...

Proceeding with the quest, you need to set up the guitar again, this time for trem use. The basics are in the Strat Setup Guide
But if you aren't experienced in doing setups, it would be wise to get a good pro to do it for the first time; it's a lot easier to maintain a good setup than to create one.

If you choose to DIY, the web is full of tips & tricks, or you can ask again here if you run into problems - or rather, ask before.

As basics, you need to understand the balance between string tension and trem springs counterforce. Then check, fix & adjust every string/other contact point, and use lube (oldschool lip balm or hightec lubing products).

I recommend doing a search for Jeff Beck's guitar set up because he's the only one I know that uses a Fender trim like that successfully for many years and he uses the trim a lot during his performances. I believe Jeff uses the roller nut as well. A good video to watch him use it is Jeff Beck Live at Ronnie Scott's.

If you are seriously going to try to float the Squier CV Strat bridge, you may want to start by replacing the stock Squier Tremolo Springs with lower tension Strat springs that are called, "Raw Vintage Electric Guitar Replacement Tremolo Springs Set of 5." These springs are built like the original vintage springs with less tension, which make using the Trem a more pleasant experience.

Here is the link on Amazon.com
