Hey everyone! I just bought a used Squier Jaguar HH from Music Go Round and I had a couple of questions and I was hoping someone here could help me out. First, it has a little buzz to it and searching the message boards here people recommend using larger strings, BUT it came from Squier with 9s on it why would in now need 11s? I prefer using 9s. Second, on the bridge there are three screws left, right and center. The left and right are for string height (that is what the salesman told me) the center is for angle, so when I adjust the left/right height screws do I need to loosen the center screw to relieve tension on it? I hope I explained that one ok. I have pictures of my gear and I tried to upload them but I ran into problems I will have to try again later. Thanks in advance!

Your guitar need a complete set up, don't work on it if you don't know how to.

See a qualified luthier. If you bought it new see the store, it should sell you a guitar with good set up.
Complet set up is to name a few ;
Neck curve adjustment with truss rod.
Check each fret level
Adjust strings height and intonation

First of all, I agree with st52; an initial setup by a pro is a great idea - he/she/it would check&adjust things like nut slots, fret level, neck angle, electronics etc. that are difficult (or just ignored) if one has little experience with setups.

But (I spied your other posts) I'm guessing you're gonna go DIY anyway, so a couple of hints.

From your description I understand you have the hardtail Vintage Modified Jaguar HH, and the (Danelectro style) bridge looks about like this (borrowed the pic from offsetguitars.com):
Image
The two screws (on both sides of the string) are for action (= saddle height = string height), the third screw (under the string) is for adjusting intonation.

On the setup, start by reading this: Fender Guitar Setup Guide
On your Jaguar, follow the order in the guide, skip what doesn't apply or isn't needed.
So: check that all screws, nuts etc. are properly tightened (snug, no overkill), put new strings on (properly wound in the tuners), measure the rough intonation, adjust the truss rod, string height, final intonation, lube, retune, play.

On the string gauge issue: The Jaguar is a short scale guitar (24"), so with normal tuning the strings are looser than on e.g. Strats (25.5" scale). Looser strings can cause more buzzing issues, so (especially on vintage style Jags with tremolo), one fix for these is to add more "downforce" on the bridge - with heavier strings and/or shimming the neck to get the string break angle steeper over the saddle.
There's no rule against .009's on Jags or other short scale guitars, sometimes it's just more difficult to set them up properly...

If the neck is not "straight' in specs, any other adjustments won't work.
Strings will buzz.

Thanks stratele 52 and jmattis for the tips, I'll see what I can do but I may have to refer to a pro.

True - but a lot of buzzing issues are caused by something else, and are not related to truss rod/relief at all.

Good decision - it's a lot easier to maintain a good setup than to create one.
Tell him/her/it you want to use that .009 gauge, describe/show your playing style and tell your other preferences - that'll help with the general setup direction (like considering to shim or not to shim).
And then: play on, play LOUD.

Yes, but you must know how is the neck first.

I'm wondering whether the OP's problem is being caused by a "high" fret, best to take it to the shop you bought it from and have it checked, it may just need a "fret leveling".

Yeah D=D, I ended up taking the Jag to a local guitar store (not GC) and the luthier did a set up for me. I had him re-string the guitar and adjust the truss rod for .10s instead of the .9s that I put on because it seems going to a bigger string also helps eliminate the buzz. The verdict: the buzz is gone :D and I play this guitar every chance I get! The neck on this guitar is so smooth and comfortable! If this guitar ever got stolen or severely damaged I would have to buy another one!
