I think an ash-bodied AVS '56 in Desert Sand with a gold-anodized pickguard would be a big hit......

I feel similar, I really don't need another Strat. I own 2 vintage Strats, 3 MB CS Strats and now the 2 new AV ones. I was not even looking for a new Strat, but when I played that AV '54 last year and the AV '56 this years at a guitar store I was sold.
But I am really interested in one of these new AV '58 Telecaster in Blonde.

I'd say you have all the bases covered on strats! I would bet the AVRI teles will be great too, if you pick up a 58' be sure to post your review on here.

I for one am glad I picked up my used CS 2011 Time Machine 55 Precision instead of ordering a 51 from the CS. I love both my 55 and AVRI 57 RI equally. They are both perfect for me. I can't stand modern radius and frets, either and that's all the CS seems to be interested in making. The only way I'll buy another Fender bass is if they pull their heads out of their butts enough to add a 51 Precision to the American Vintage line after 33 years. The AV line still play and sound like a Fender should. That's good enough for me. A shame the way this whole CS situation has gone. How can we possibly hope to compete with industry "names" and deep pocket retailers for love? I have the only two basses I will need until I'm in the ground. If I need an electric guitar, one of the AV 50's Tele's or AV Limited Edition Teles would be all I'd ever need.

To me there is no cooler looking Fender Bass than the '51 Precision ! Keith Ferguson looked and sounded killer with his.

Agreed. The slab body, single coil P is my favorite. I'm always on the look out for someone selling one of the CS limited edition 51 P's from the anniversary. People don't seem to want to part with them. :/

If I would own one, I wouldn't part with it either.
I loved the metallic green ones they did at the CS, but Blonde would be fine as well.

I searched high and low literally for years before finding a CS "Closet Classic" Strat with the traditional 7.25" radius fretboard and vintage fret wire. Apparently they have to be specifically ordered as the CS routinely builds only 9.5" necks with "speed bump" frets.

That's one thing I don't get - why search for an already ordered Fender CS guitar/bass and not order your own, down to your desired specs? I waited about 5 months for my CS '64 NOS Jazz, but I got everything I wanted, the way I wanted it. Isn't that the whole essence of the existence of CS itself? I do understand that if someone wants something truly special that goes into the Masterbuilt range the wait would be much longer, but then again, what are the odds of finding that special one in a store/online?

Sometimes 'you can't always get what you want'. about 10 years ago I ordered a 'Teambuilt' guitar. It took 12 months. They got the neck carve wrong. I sent it back, waited another 6 mos. It was returned with a v-neck, but NOT the Clapton neck carve I ordered. 'So, tired, tired of waiting', I held on to it for awhile, and then swapped it out for a Gilmour.

I do remember your story ZZDoc, and I am really sorry that it happened. But I don't believe that this is the average case with CS custom orders.

My "specs" are Leo's specs -- nothing more, nothing less. I will stipulate that my purchase was an "impulse" buy but when I saw the guitar then played it, I simply had to take it home. It couldn't have been any better than if I had spec'd it myself and ordered it. And I didn't have to wait for months on end waiting for it to be delivered.

Mine are Leo's, too - all vintage. :)
Wait, then why did you originally say that you "searched high and low literally for years"?

There's the time when one walks into a shop and a voice from the wall shouts..."Pilgrim, your search is ended!"

That's a pretty accurate description of the turn of events as I experienced them. I'd been wanting a black MIA Strat with rosewood furniture for years but all that kept turning up were either guitars with "modern" specs or instruments that had been tortured into "relic-dom". Neither of which I care a whit about.
