Negatory. All they have to do is the mod Diaz did for SRV. Small sections of plastic tubing covering the strings where they pass through the saddles.

Bit of a bump (new info about the "Brownie") -

These guitars (he has three of them) are actually based on the ash body Buddy Holly 1955 but with Eric's electronics and neck.

On the subject of the string breaks, Dan says he tried the tubes (the 'SRV mod') but it didn't work. He then noticed the bridge saddles were unique to the BH, so swapped out the bridge which did the trick.

:? :? :? :? :? :? Yo Lefty!! Is 'moi' missing something here :?: :? This guitar is supposed to be a replica of the '56 Stratocaster which he purchased used in England, and which I originally saw in a really fine display in Seattle not long after Paul Allen purchased it at Christie's auction in '94. There should be no 'Eric's electronics and neck' in this guitar. It's a stock Strat.

The 'stock-o-verb' pedal should be used to recreate the original :)

That guitar was used on his first CD...... 'Eric Clapton'. After that, it was all 'Blackie' until the late 80's.

So is this guitar being produced for the public to buy? I saw nothing at the winter Namm Show regarding this guitar, which I would love to have one. :D

You're going to have to go back to page one and read the entire thread. This is another one of Chromeface's wishfull thinking wet dreams along with the EPC Rosso. Can't say that I blame him. However, there's nothing of its kind in the Custom Shop's current offerings either under Artist Series or LTD series. The last one of its kind they released due to underwhelming demand was the 'grigio silverstone', aka EC Grey. [ I'll use the UK preferred spelling in deference to the artist.]

As ZZ says... :D

Look like a one-off (well, three off...) for Mr C.
Buddy Holly Ash instead of Eric of the Clapton Alder :D

PS - where is our little friend from Greece?

He'll pop up again I'm sure. BTW: How did you connect with the back story on these guitars of his. I'd like to read it for myself.

P.S. Catch my post on the Lounge Forum regarding Mike Eldred's new release. There's a long and fascinating journey behind this one which was followed on his Facebook page.

Look for him to champion a Squier line of Custom Signature Strats in the future.

That way he can forge some artist's name on the headstock of his then proclaim "Zounds, lookie what I've got!".

There's an interview with guitar tech Dan in the latest Where's Eric magazine.

He also briefly mentions the "Alexander Dumble built" (I guess modified) Fender Bandmaster amp he's been using for a few years.

I'll check out the M.E post. Thanks.

How do I find or access the interview?

BTW....back in '08, in the Platinum Room of a Guitar Center in Carle Place NY, I happened upon a Todd Krause built very heavy relic sunburst 'Clapton' type Strat.....neck and electronics as the hallmark. I do not find 'dragged behind a truck over 40 miles of bad road' finished guitars compelling, but someone out there is in possession of one helluva rare bird,

It's only in the printed magazine, rather than online. You have to subscribe via the website to receive it, which I've done for years. I don't have a scanner otherwise I'd publish it for you, but I don't... so...

I'll type in a snippet which is relevant to this thread (the rest is Dan's background type stuff) -

Behind the scenes at the 2015 RAH concerts.

WE: What is the story behind the new Fender Sunburst Stratocasters being used at the recent concerts? Are there just two of them?

DD: The new Sunburst guitars are based on the Buddy Holly '55 ash body Strat but with Eric's neck and electronics. We have three of them at the moment.

WE: Eric very occasionally breaks a string but seemed to do so 3 nights running at the RAH - were they a new variety, was it just bad luck, or was he playing harder?

DD: Yeah, it was a shock to me.... the first string break in 5 years! Then it happened again the next night and again the night after that. At first, as it happened towards the end of the set, I put it down to Eric just playing a blinder! When it happened again, even with a short sleeve of plastic tubing over the end of the string to protect the string as it threads through the bridge (a Stevie Ray Vaughan trick), I noticed that the saddles were authentic to the Buddy Holly guitar and not the same as the saddles on the newer guitars. I changed the bridge and it seemed to work... no string breaks for the rest of the Albert Hall shows. Phew!

WE: Could you confirm the specification of the amps and pedals he was using at the recent concerts? I think the last tour you told me he was using a 3x10 Fender Bandmaster 1957, and Wah Wah and custom built switcher to the Leslie.

DD: For the last couple of years we've been using the Fender Bandmaster built by Alexander Dumble. On the floor we have a Dunlop Crybaby Wah and Mike Hill custom switch to turn the Leslie on. The Leslie cabinet is a bit like a chorus pedal and recognisable on songs like Wonderful Tonight and Badge but also used more recently on You Are So Beautiful and Can't Find My Way Home.

A very simple set up really... basically Strat into the Bandmaster most of the time. I had one person asking me what amp he used for his clean tone. He'll get clean sounds by riding the volume on the guitar and then it's everything up all the way, also really pulling out the notes with his fingers for lead. I think that the combination of the new Buddy Holly guitar and the Bandmaster amp at the recent Albert Hall shows were fantastic!

Yo Lefty!! Thanks for taking the time to put that all together for us. My guess is that the idea The use of the "Holly '55" as a base had more to do with the SB2 burst finish which is pretty much identical to the '56 Brownie. The contrast in the SB2 burst appears to have soften into '57 and then mid-'58 saw the introduction of the SB3 which, initially, had a very soft transition between tones. I owned one about 50 + years ago and much preferred it to later attempts at it.
