Just saw some footage from the 1st birthday night at MSG, Eric apparently retired his old EC Grey from active service and blew up his fans cradling - surprise! - a modernized version of the old "Brownie" with his favorite pickup configuration and Elite circuitry.

Time to authorize the matched 2-colour burst finish for 2015 in the form of an LTD?

Cool! Thanks, Chromey. I'd forgotten there had been a gig.

I'm curious about ZZDoc's reaction regarding this matched 2-tone burst axe :P

Bearing in mind this it NOT the so-called "T-Mobile" guitar, just sayin'.

Nice birthday celebration gift, indeed!

It's clear from the previous auctions that he gets all kinds of guitars (from Fender CS), some of which are never seen at gigs, or used at all according to the documentation. Perhaps this was another "here you go, Eric, see what you think.", and he liked it!

Looking out for more videos. Some of the blues numbers would be nice :)

Thanks again for the reminder/pics/vids.

At a first time I thought he'll never authorize a Brownie signature until now. I do even remember he already allowed a signature Blackie 25 years ago.

Now the dream becomes a reality with the modernized versions of two iconic masterpieces.

Personally I wish seeing the modernized Brownie with Lace Sensors and a cigarette holder in the head (even if Eric no longer smokes!)

Are your sure its not just his copy of the LTD without the active circuit??

Ah, you mean the 2013 tribute? Well... perhaps he was thinking seriously about the idea of finally authorizing the matched 2-colour burst finish for his modernized personal stage guitars almost 2 years after testing the Brownie tribute at home.

Fender went with a pair of LTD versions for both EC Grey and Daphne Blue 5 years ago - so why not doing the same for Brownie and EC Red?

Speculation is just fine. You post suggests that it was so.

Shortly after quitting the Fender camp John Mayer signed a deal with PRS.

For the 2015 Grammy Awards he opted for a pink Jackson Soloist, jamming up with Ed Sheeran.

You be sure to let us know when you buy one.

And let us know how it sounds through your Squier 10G amp.

Now I'll have to watch all the videos again.. :D I'm sure I saw him rolling in the midboost (and hearing it of course) in at least one clip.

PS - what's the story with JM being all moody about playing Fender guitars?

Hello there fellow EC nuts...

I was lucky enough to be at both NYC shows and was blown away when the sunburst strat came out!! EC actually had two (though one was a backup). I was close enough to the stage the second night and spoke with Dan (EC's new guitar tech), though he didn't shed any light on the new "Brownie," he was kind of enough to give me a pick.

I did see a RED strat come out of the tour box and asked about it, Dan explained it was EC's "warm-up" guitar.

Regarding the possible new, sunburst EC LTD -- I had noticed the Music Gallery used to sell sunburst TK strats with active EC electronics...? Only thing is, they weren't allowed to be called "EC strats."

Then it's possible Eric requested an EPC Rosso as a warm-up guitar.

I never seen him playing that EPC Rosso onstage yet.
