Since 6 months I have 57 Custom Shop Time Machine Limited Edition Stratocaster.
It is Closed Classic finish.
Since I bought it, I had an ergonomic problem with 12 seaddles screws on the bridge, which were about 2mm over the seaddles. They stabbed my right hand during playing.
I thought, that problem is simple and solution will be to cut the screws.
When I arrived to specialist to do it, he explain me, that main problem of my guitar is tilt betwen neck and body. And second problem is, that neck pocket in body is too large (it is possible to put 0,1 mm measuring plate on both sides of the neck (between neck and body). So my guitar was repaired by CS service.
Now, tilt is corrected (they milled neck pocket on the body), but they said that 0,2 mm of clearance between neck and neck body pocket si no problem.
Since I know about this problem, I seen several movies, also with John Cruz, who explain how important is, that necks is very tight connected with body. I see also some American standard, with better connection then my CS.

Do you, CS strat users, have the guitars with neck which is not tight connected? What do you thonkabout it?

Can you (CS Staff) help me with my problem (if it is a probleme)?

How it is possible that CS Time Machine Strat have problems like that?

I have a 1960 Closet Classic Strat and the neck fits the pocket tighter than a mosquito's a$$hole stretched around a rain barrel.

Sounds like your guitar was built on a Superbowl Monday.

That has little or nothing to do with a little bit of clearance on the sides, but that the neck plate screws hold the neck tightly to the body.

Other than visually, there is no affect to the performance or tone of the guitar. Fenders have had varying neck pocket gaps since the beginning, and some with big gaps have been killer sounding...and often recorded guitars.
A tight pocket will look nicer, it's true, but what can happen with tight (side) pockets is that the different expansion and contraction rates of the body wood, and the neck wood, can eventually result in paint cracks around the pocket. Bolt on necks can also be adjusted sideways to align the strings to suit. Want more clearance between the hight E string and the edge of the neck for your vibrato? Easy, just loosen the neck bolts a tad and move the neck sideways slightly, and tighten up the bolts. Done! You can't do that with a tight pocket, any more than you can do it with a set neck. Or if you try, you risk cracking the body!
The tight contact with the bottom of the pocket, and the rear of the pocket, is where all the vibrations that produce the tones are transferred. Tight sides to the pocket are not really transferring those tones, because, although it looks and feels tight, there's no real sideways pressure exerted.

So the coupling of the neck to the bottom of the pocket and to the rear of the pocket is all that is necessary to work well.

However, I know how we can obsess about our guitars. Like that first ding that seems disastrous when it happens, and something like the neck pocket gap may spoil how you feel about the guitar.
I hope that doesn't happen, but there's no real solution if it does bug you...other than finding another guitar that looks the way you want it.
But if the guitar plays and sounds really good, it might be a mistake to change it!

Hi anyone who is interested in Buying/ordering a John Cruz guitar. I just bought a NEW John Cruz 1960 strat and it came unplayable. You/I would think for $6400.00 that this guitar would be race ready, it is not. Now I have been talking to a Paul at Fender, and I have to now take guitar cross town and jump through more hoops to get this resolved. meanwhile after spending $6400 on a John Cruz guitar I still have no guitar. The issue is that the frets ends were rounded off too much and the High and low E falls off the ends. (most severly the high E) It is at Master Luthier, (Rauen guitars) right now, look him up in milwaukee, he was shocked that this is what I got for my money. He thought I bought it second hand and some hack did this. He said he has seen this before and he wont even deal with Fender, "It's too much hassle, and not worth it". So much for finally being able to buy a awsome guitar and have it a enjoyable experience. I'm not even sure if John Cruz made this guitar. (They maybe just slaped his name on it). anyway this sucks Buyer beware. I will keep you posted on this, here and other sites. Blessings

Instead of posting on here and other sites, why not just start your own topic instead of pasting your rant on everyone else's?

Face it. You paid over $6000 for a Custom Shop. It seems to have been whacked a bit on the way to the store and needed a bit of adjustment. With all the Fender authorized shops in Milwaukee you instead took it to a non-authorized shop. Now you haven't seen your guitar in weeks, you're going to get a bill from the shop, you've voided your warranty, and you don't know what the shop is going to do to it.
If you would have gone to an authorized shop on day one you would likely be a happy man right now. If a neck with butchered frets somehow made it out the door on a John Cruz build and an authorized Fender shop confirmed it, the Fender Custom Shop would have bent over backwards to make it right. If it would have taken sending a new Custom Shop neck out overnight mail to that shop, they would have likely done it.
Instead you are sitting at home without a guitar and pasting your rants bashing the Master Builder on other people's threads. A man that makes a living making guitars that sell based on the reputation he has built during his career. You might want to give your keyboard a break from ranting and Google the word "Libel".

When this thread started a guy wanted info on John Cruz Custom Shop guitars. I shared my disappointing experience I had with mine to him. If all you want is sugar go to the fender website and get your fill. My new John Cruz Custom Shop guitar needed to be refretted. They said to take it to some local joe to work on it , this local Joe already said there was nothing wrong with the guitar. That guy is all yours (I'm sure no waiting list). I took guitar to a master luther Denny Rauen look him up he has done work for many famous, and not famous musicians (Rauen guitars Milwaukee) Having John Cruz fix a guitar that he supposedly made, was never an option given to me from Fender. I would never buy from fender again because of this. Live and learn. BUYER BEWARE of all the John Cruz Custom Shop Hype. Save your money. If you had good luck with yours, good for you, that's your opinion. If you buy a $200 Fender what do you expect?, If you buy a $2000 Fender what do you expect?, If you buy a $6400 John Cruz Custom Shop guitar what do you expect? I too paid all this money on John Cruz reputation, and I lost Big time. Or maybe this is normal, and I had my expectations up too high. Shame on me. (gullible on John Cruz hype) I got the guitar back from Rauen guitars and it now plays well. Buyer Beware, don't pay for John Cruz HYPE. Blessings

Sorry for disrupting your thread. You can now go back to your Happy place, where people just say happy things to brainwash each other that nothing bad ever happens. Blessings
