I am hearing that there might be a signature model Stratocaster based off of U2's guitar player Edge's. Does anyone know if this could materialize and possibly this guitar will be at winter Namm 2015?

Given that David "The Edge" Evans now sits on Fender's board of directors, that would be exceedingly bad fingerspitzengefühl.

Good for him for being on Fenders Board of Directors. The man knows his Fenders and this will only make Fenders a better quality product, but I would still like to have an Strat that is endorsed by him. He seems like a nice person and he is an excellent guitar player. :D

I don't see how Edge and Bono being on the board of directors could be a good thing for me, but for some I'm sure it will be. I'm not interested in any of the ideas the people who are apparently running this company are trying to push. Thinking they can reinvent the wheel. Hell, even Leo couldn't touch the basses he created between 51 and 62 later in his career in my eyes.

Everything is "vintage vibe", but not vintage specs. Smoke and mirrors. Just overpriced knock offs. There are dozens of other companies that have been doing that for decades. If you have to do it for some stupid reason. Keep that garbage on the lower end instruments. Just give me real Fender instruments and amplification.

I see you listed recently new instruments that you are using, and not vintage ones. Fender must be doing something right! I have both vintage Fenders and Custom Shop guitars. The quality is there from old to present. The mojo is in the hands of the player. My dream job would be a guitar rep for Fender, and be based out of California and travel all around selling their product to music stores. My love for the Fender brand and their products, old and new are very strong, and all the negative vibe from other musician's can not change that for me. Rock on Brother! :D

Not really. There has steadily been a definitive shift at Fender in the past few years at every level. Vintage specs have been abandoned for modern. My CS 55 was purchased used and obviously ordered that way specifically with correct specs instead of even the incorrect default specs that they try to pass off.

The past few years Custom Shop "Limited Edition" Time Machine models have included non-vintage specs. The only line that remains untouched as of yet is the American Vintage line. Which, especially on the bass end, is constantly small while scores of modern junk is churned out en masse. We now have the Fender Dimension Bass. A knock off of another company's inferior instrument being made at multiple levels. Yet we can't get an American Vintage Single Coil Precision after 32 years of the line being in production.

So no. Fender isn't really doing much right at all. There is no Vintage Reissue or Modified Bass Amplification Line. Even the modern Bassman Pro series which I use to gig with is riddled with "improvements" that are nothing but a headache and make what is otherwise a great sounding amp border on unreliable. Absolutely disgusting given that it's nearly a 1500 dollar bass head. The only thing Fender has implemented that has been an improvement to their bass line in recent years are the NEO cabs. However, that is tempered with the fact that they are steadily trashing everything that made a Fender Bass a Fender Bass and set it apart from all the other modern knock offs in the market place.

I play the Fender Basses that I play because they are the exception. Not the rule.

I am sorry that you are a debbie downer on Fender guitars. Perhaps you could work for Fender and help develop a plan on making old guitars new again with the spec's you feel other players would want. For me, Fender is doing it right and I have both vintage and new custom shop Fenders, and the quality is there. You should attend the winter Namm Show and see the Fender booth and try out some of the custom shop guitars. I think you would be impressed. By the way, you will have to know someone who is a Namm member to get a pass to attend Namm. It is not opened to the public. Maybe you might know someone at Fender to help you out. I hope to see you there and enjoy your Fender guitars, like I do everyday. Cheers! :D
