I finally decided I am ready for a Custom Shop Strat.

My brother has an early 60's NOS sunburst that he picked up some years ago and I LOVE THE WAY IT SOUNDS. It is a pleasure to play and blows other Strats I've played out of the water. It's comfortable and rings forever.
So I figured I would get something similar but just a different color. So I hit the internet looking for an early 60's (or late 50's) Black Strat (not particular on the year) with a rosewood fretboard NOS (no relic). I prefer something teambuilt for cost reasons.

However, there is none to be found. Seriously. I have spend HOURS on the internet and checked every guitar store in town. NOTHING.

STUNNED.

I'm seriously stunned by this. I mean, it seems like a pretty common guitar that I have seen EVERYWHERE over the years. I guess now that I decide to buy one there is none to be had.

Roll the violin music and a single manly tear rolls...

Isn't this crazy?

Heres a 65, maybe just close to what you want, but you'll find one:

It's not a 65 but a 64. Close, but the OP specified an early 60s or late 50s model with a spaghetti decal.

@bcam23

tt92780 found this L-series '64 having all the specs you're looking for. If you really want a guitar built in your own specifications, then you'll probably chose the more expensive masterbuilt route.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

I download a 2014 CS order form as the first step towards having a CS strat made with what I am looking for. Again, nothing fancy (I really don't want to pay for an "L" for example) as I care more for how it sounds and feels than the specs.
Yikes.
Quickly overwhelmed, however by all the choices offered by the CS shop.
So.
Many.
Choices.
It will take me a week of research just to figure out the differences between all the neck options. And things like finishes seem subjective but how would you ever know what you want if you have never seen/felt it?
I think I'll just bid my time until what I want turns up somewhere. Maybe one of these big CS dealers will get one in.

So you have chosen the Masterbuilt route which is more expensive.

He didn't mentioned anything about the guitar being masterbuild. :? bcam23, if you know what you want, pull the trigger and order one, don't wait for it to appear - having your own order built is something unique. :)

I second that. Don't be overwhelmed by the options.

Thanks for the encouraging words.

I have the order form sitting on my desk and going through it is a slow process. First question: Modern or Vintage? Then there are 5 options under the Modern umbrella and about twice that under the Vintage. Since I do not have the opportunity to try each model, I have to research it and make the best guess. And that takes time and energy.

And then after that questions in more options choices: construction, neck wood, neck finish, and neck shape, etc. It quickly becomes overwhelming for a hobbyist like myself who doesn't really understand all the specific technicalities of guitar building. It's a great way to learn though!

I'm still keeping my eyes open for a CS strat however that is already built. Somewhere one exists!

I say vintage all the way. :D Isn't a '60s Stratocaster what you are after in the first place?

Don't be overwhelmed by the options, start from the very basic and fundamental options and once you have a first image of the guitar move on to more specific details. You already have your brother's CS Stratocaster, examine her, find out what you like and what things you would like in a different way, and that's it!

Either way, I don't believe you can order a guitar that you won't fell in love with. :)
